Stand in front of the vaccuum with the lable facing you, the 2 release levers are on the left and right sides, attached to the motor housing, which sits atop the tank/canister. Pull out and up on the levers, twist counter-clockwise, lift straight up and the motor housing will follow, leaving the tank/canister on the floor.

SOURCE: Miele white star canister vacuum - won't turn on, but isn't clogged

Miele S251i Plus Bagged Canister Vacuum
Miele white star canister vacuum - won't turn on,...
Hi,

I have the above canister vac, which after my son tried to vac the stairs, it rolled down the stairs on him, but still worked, after turned off/on. Then after turned off maybe 10-15 mins., stopped working when we tried the switch. My father in law is our fix it guy, but still having a problem with the switch. Is there a wiring guide we could look at?

Thank you!

ALevy

I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure.
You can try to call the factory for the Miele S251i schematics / wiring diagram @ the phone number and website listed below or I put a few pieces of information listed below that might help.
1. The vacuum cleaner switches off automatically
A temperature limiter switches the vacuum cleaner off automatically if it gets too hot. Some models have a warning light (triangle) which comes on to indicate that it has overheated. Allow the appliance to cool down for approx. 30 mins. and remove any blockages to the air path.
2. The "Change dustbag" indicator stays on even when a new bag has been inserted
To ensure the dustbag change indicator gives a correct reading, lift the floor nozzle or power head off the floor slightly to prevent the vacuum created in the suction tube from influencing the reading.
3. The exhaust filter indicator is red
Change the exhaust filter and then press "Reset" to switch off the indicator light.

SOURCE: My bissell easy vac won't pick up after first use

Well after reading and re-reading my bissell easy vac manual (I had only used the vac twice), I went through all the troubleshooting recommendations. I cleaned out all filters and even though I had only used my hose attachment once, I was shocked that it was completely clogged! I took the whole thing apart and thoroughly cleaned it out according to the manufacturers instructions. It is working beautifully again now, I just take extra care to check it after every use...it can be a hassle, but I find that's what happens when you buy bargain items; you spend less but end up investing more time in upkeep. I hope this helps!! :)

SOURCE: Hoover Steam Vac ; The vac is not dispensing

Hi there,

Just a quick clarification please. Will the water not spray in both the attachment hose as well as the floor part? Or does it spray in one or the other. You suspect that it may have a clogged line, is the machine doing anything in particular that makes you think a clog?

Thanks,
CJ

Too much water in the unit causes what you describe. Water should be drained and the unit completely dried between water events, or unit will rust and have shortened life.

I have a Miele S7280 Mistral upright vacuum that got clogged after sucking up a small dusting rag using the wand. How do I unclog it?

I got a clog out of my vac's hose by taking the hose off the machine and inserting a garden hose in one end then turning water pressure on it. I got a rag out that way. ONLY DO THIS IF THE WATER WILL NOT HURT THE HOSE ITSELF>

Shop vac is not pumping out water just fills the canister

The question makes perfect sense assuming we are talking about the ShopVacPumpVac. These devices are, essentially, a combination shop vac and sump pump. For those answering the question, you can see literature on these vacuum/sumps here: https://www.shopvac.com/includes/streamPDF.asp?loc=pdf&id=Shop-Vac-Pump-It-Out .

When I have experienced the loss of drainage, I have found a couple obvious problems and solutions.

First, make sure that the garden/discharge hose is not kinked at any point along the line from the vacuum to the outside. If kinked, the line will not drain.

Second, the baffle can become blocked or clogged. Take the following steps to determine if your baffle is clogged and to clear the clog:

1. Turn off and unplug the vacuum.
2. Unclip the two lid clips.
3. Lift the lid of the vacuum. When properly set up, the baffle hangs below the filter housing on an opaque hose about 1 foot in length.
4. Grasp that hose and pull firmly downward. Once removed, I take that hose and the attached baffle to an outside garden hose.
5. Pull the baffle off the opaque hose.
6. Spray water from your garden hose through the opaque hose to make sure it is clear.
7. Spray the baffle clear.
8. Lightly tap the port of the baffle, where the opaque hose has been inserted. Most of my clogs have been the result of hair balls (or worse) at this point. Just tap any blockage out and rinse.

Third, reattach the baffle to the opaque hose. Reattach the opaque hose and baffle to the motor under the filter housing. Set the vacuum top on the canister. Click the locking clamps closed.

If this doesn't result in clearing the clog and allowing it to drain, then you are in the exact spot I am right now. If I figure out this new problem, I will update further. But I have cleared this kind of clog maybe five times in the six months I've been using this new Shop Vac Sump Vac

Vacuuming up water with Shop Vac model 84M200

when picking up dry materials use the foam sleeve that slips on and the blue cloth (assuming there all blue) over it, there should be a ring that slides over blue cloth to hold it in place over the foam sleeve, for wet pick up u can use the foam sleeve minus the blue cloth but let it dry out before picking up dry stuff, you can pick up both wet and dry with a cartrige filter that looks simular to a car air filter and it slips over the foam sleeve, but let it dry out after picking up water before picking up dry cause itll just clog it up

Ridgid 16.5 gallon motor running with no suction

When you use the shop vac for cleaning up water you must remove the filter.

The filter is for dust particles not for water
I would replace your filter and dump the water out from the shop vac, Also after each time you vacuum up water dump it out of shop vac.

I hope this helped you happy new year!

Set up the shop vac to pick up water

I figured I had nothing to lose so I just started vacuuming. I thought I had to turn the end of the hose that connects to the shop-vac around (which I did so that it brought the water down to the 'bucket'. Other than that, I even went to Yahoo Answers and asked for input. The answers were - just vacuum, they didnt think there was anything to do with the vacuum to set it up for wet vac. I had removed the cloth filter used for dry vacuuming so I was ok with that. I also saw a YouTube video that said basically to remove the cloth filter. Ok .... that was not so difficult. Thank goodness too.

Check the belts first, if ok, does water squirt out of the hose nozzzle, if it does then the heate in the handle asm. is clogged where the tubes hook up to it. If no water squirts out, the the pump isn't working. Pull the top cover off, check all tubes to make sure there is no clog. Make sure the tubes are routed right so as not pinch one, also make sure the piston is mounted on the smart mix knob. and the knob is in the water setting before putting the cover back on. The cap for the flow indictor is leaking are or screwed on too tight. The seal at the bottom of the tank is not on the tank and is missing or sitting in the hole where the water goes.

open the top of the vacuum. remove ONLY the filter element. There should be a ball about a two inch diameter inside the cage. It's purpose is to shut off the vacuum flow when water reaches a high in the canister.
