Your engine should be sealed enough to prevent this..unless you have the engine mounted so low it idles under water...???.. There is a seal that goes between the lower cowl pieces and the engine, a seal around the engine cover(cowl)...and seals that surround all wires and cables.

SOURCE: Engine starts but immediately quits.

Check the float or needle and seat valve inside the carb. One of those is probably stuck. If its a vacu-jet carb then check the diaphram on the side of the carb. It would be a small plate held on by 2 to 4 small screws. A stiff Diaphram means that it wount pump fuel.

SOURCE: 1989 200hp evirude wont idle in water idels fine out of the water

I would readjust your idle mixture screw with engine in gear and on the water at an idle. That is a common problem after rebuilding carbs. It will run diferently under a load in the water. Just tie up to the dock and adjust them there.

Fuel routing:
Tank to carb (filter on free end in tank, replace annually)
Carb to primer (primer sucks fuel through carb)
Primer to tank (primer returns excess fuel to tank) HTH

SOURCE: Gilera cougar 125 fuel carb overflow

may be dirt in the tank, or the feed pipe is deteriorated, clean the carb & float needle again and renew feed pipe and fit an in-line filter, ( will only cost a few pounds) it you still have the same problem then it's pretty sure to be the float needle & seat

Testimonial: "Thank you jim this has cured the problem."

I have an Evinrude outboard motor which starts well however when I throtle up or put load on the motor it seems to starve for fuel. I put the choke on and the motor pickes up for a split second

Check, clean fuel filter. Check fuel pump for correct pressure, by opening and catching fuel in carbs. If carbs. are consistant with plenty fuel. You will need to clean carbs. Firtsly check for air leaks, by spraying carb cleaner on fuel lines from tank to carbs. If engine speeds up you found air leak

35hp Johnson evinrude outboard not running at full potential

Hi, did you buy your engine used? Sounds like your gonna have to get the carb or carbs cleaned. Its possible you could have a stopped up fuel filter, or not enough spark but i am guessing its gonna be the carbs. They got some gunk in em i bet. Probably old fuel turned to gunk from setting up. I had the same problem on my 40 horse.

2000 Buell Blast will not turn over

You have fuel in the tank, but is the float bowl full? Loosen the bowl drain, see if ya got gas. All the new bikes have vacuum operated fuel petcocks, and it takes forever in the spring to crank em long enough to fill the bowl. Take the line off the petcock, fill it with a small funnel with fuel, then put it back on, and fire it up.
