Sounds like it is either out of time or the adjuster spring needs to be replaced.

SOURCE: Singer Touch Tronic 2001 Sewing Machine Stuck on Sewing Straight Stitch Only

I had a similar problem a couple of years ago. I finally figured out that I had the straight stitch needle plate (the one with the single hole), rather than the zig zag needle plate (the one with the curved hole). When I changed plates, it worked fine.

SOURCE: bernina 1080 stitch length and needle jumping problem

you will most likely find that just adjusting the stitch length and width controls for a while will correct the problem (if the machine has been sitting idle for some time the stepper motor linkages seem to stiffen up a bit but i have good success with continual adjustment until they free-up.

also try switching machine off and on again to ensure it resets correctly.

the combination of both above fixes works 95% of the time - otherwise, as you mentioned circuit board and or stepper motor replacement may be necessary (however if both length and width are playing up it is unlikely to be an electrical fault).

Before you put the cam in did you make sure the machine was set on straight stitch and then select zig zag?

How to zig zag on a janome sewing model 385.4052LX200 what numbers do I set the length dial and the stitch dial on

It really depends on what you want your stitch to look like. A longer stitch length will put more space between the stitches. Shorter stitch length will close the gap between stitches. Stitch width determines how wide the stitch will be.

What number is satin stitch on Piaf quilt expressions 4.0

A satin stitch is simply a zig-zag stitch that is shortened enough so the threads lay next to each other without laying over another but also without any space (fabric) showing between. Keep in mind that the thread weight will cause the satin stitch to differ.

I need to know how to wind a bob in for Pfaff 2036 machine. I would also like to obtain a copy of the instruction manual for this machine

How about this?

Threading Pfaff Sewing Machine mov

PFAFF expression 2034 Instruction Manual
(this is for a 2034 but is probably close enough to your machine to be useful. Usually, there is a very slight different between models, that most often just entails a few extra features or decorative stitches.)

How do I correct stitch length mechanism to produce 6 stitches per inch?

the stitch length is governed by the cam action connected to the walking foot
that means that the stitch length is governed by the amount of material that is pulled through in the period of time that the needle comes up and goes down
normally the cam action is set by the stitch length lever/ reverse lever
if there is a necessity for a longer stitch, the cam would have to be changed on the drive shaft underneath
That will require a discussion with a sewing machine mechanic to determine if there are cams or other linkages that can be fitted to alter the stitch length for the manufactured maximum

How can I reset the stitch length?

Try resetting it according to the manual on page 56. First turn the machine off, unplug it and wait 2 - 3 minutes and re-plug it and turn it back on and reset the stitch length - the screen for the stitch setting will appear, the down arrow makes the stitch shorter, and up arrow makes the stitch longer. If that don't work you might have to contact sewing machine serviceman, or you might can call Brothers and they can help troubleshoot the problem.

How do I set the basting stitch length? when I try, it just beeps at me.

A BASTING STITCH IS ONLY A LONG STRAIGHT STITCH. THE NUMBER THAT IS LOWER IS A LONGER STITCH (FEWER STITCHES PER INCH). YOU WERE LIKELY MOVING YOUR NUMBER HIGHER. AFTER YOU GOT TO A CERTAIN NUMBER IT NO LONGER QUALIFIES AS A BASTING STITCH BUT A STRAIGHT STITCH. USE A LOWER NUMBER AND IT WILL LIKELY TO STOP THE BEEPING.

The machine isn't making stitches. It's threaded correctly. I have been sewing leather recently and it's been acting up since then. I have cleaned the bobbin area. And have adjusted the tension...

Hello

Adjust the Stitch Length;

To make longer stitches, set the stitch length to a higher number. On many sewing machines, four is the longest possible stitch length and two is average.

To make shorter stitches, set the stitch length to a lower number. At a zero, the sewing machine may not actually make stitches, since the needle will go up and down in one place.

Cut a small scrap of fabric, preferably the same type you want to sew with.

Sew a few test stitches on the scrap. Examine the stitches to make sure they're the length you want.

Adjust the stitch length again as needed.
