SOURCE: Changing Language

I had the same problem with my Canon Smartbase MP730. Printer properties was in Portuguese, no matter how many times the driver was uninstalled and reinstalled.

By running Filemon from SysInternals I realized that when showing the printer properties files in the

C:\BJPrinter\CNMWINDOWS\Canon MP730 Printer\LanguageModules\0409\

folder were created. One of those files was CNMmhya.hlp. When clicking on it a Help-window with Portuguese text shows up - even though the code 0409 means English. This is a symptom of the problem. This file was copied from somewhere in the Windows folder.

To fix this annoying problem, the following worked for me:

-> Unplug the printer
-> Uninstall the driver
-> Rename the following folder with the portuguese language driver stuff which still remains, even after uninstallation of the driver:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\spool\drivers\w32x86\3

(if you cannot rename it, reboot and try again). You should first check that there are indeed portuguese help-files in this folder. To do that, click on one of the .hlp files. If they are not your problem could be a different one, but it could also be that the files are stored nearby in the file system.

-> Reinstall the driver with the language of your choice. This time there won't be Portuguese files blocking proper installation of your new files.
-> Replug the printer to finish the driver installation

Now you should have finally gotten rid of the Portuguese (which may seem Spanish or Italian to some) text in Printer related windows.

Make sure the camera is on and pc is selected on the camera screen when connected to the computer. You will need to have PC highlighted and select ok on the camera as this starts the camera and computer to communicate. Once communication established the LCD screen of the camera goes dark and the computer should generate a removable disk drive. Check the System Tray (lower right corner beside the PC time) for Safely Remove Hardware. When you click on it, it should read "Safely Remove USB Mass Storage Device Drive ?:" If you dont see that, then check the Device Manager to see if the camera is recognized as USB Mass Storage Device. The camera uses the driver usbstor.

If you want to check the date on a monitor check the exif information.
www.irfanview.com has a function that lets you see the exif data for digital photos.

I have been given a olmpus fe-270. It was bought in china so has chinese on the display menu. Can i change it to english please

From either the Shooting or Playback mode, select the Setup menu (the wrench and hammer icon). Select the talking head (should be the fourth item). From there you can select the language for on-screen display. Be aware that available languages depend on where you purchased the camera, so English may not be available.

Olympus FE-270

Hi,
First check your warranty - you may be able to return it for repair under that - and yes it needs a repair. The metering system is now broken, The chances are you'll recieve a new one as it is more cost effective to them to do this. (keep the batteries)
