Re: Compressor area above refrigerator is getting very...
Hi,
Check Thermostat. Proper Cleaning/Defrosting of fridge and freezer. Proper Placing and Distance from wall. If your hand bear the body temperature of that specific area then its normal. Contact technician to verify Freon pressure.

Getting warm around the door is OK but getting hot around door indicates a restriction of the airflow below your refrigerator. The compressor produces hot Freon that is pumped out the discharge side of compressor. On many refrigerators the gas goes to the yoder Condenser Loop first and then cooled by the condenser fan motor before going to the freezer section as a liquid.
Anything restricting that airflow will cause the yoder loop to get hotter. Example a defective condenser fan, dusty conditions below refrigerator or room temperatures way above normal for a kitchen or room inside your home. Insure fan stays on when compressor runs because a defective condenser fan does not always stop when defective. Most refrigerators work best with room temperatures in mid 70's to middle 80's. Making sure that airflow is good, fan's stay on with compressor and room temperatures stay in the normal range is important to keep those temperatures lower in the yoder loop. If helpful please rate this solution, Thanks Sea Breeze

Hi, and no, you have only one compressor for this unit.It sounds as though your defrost timer is not working on the evaporator, stuck in the defrost cycle, and this is why its not freezing. It could be several different reasons the freezer stopped working. Check the fan in the freezer to see if its running. The defrost timer should be located behind the unit at the lower section. If this unit has a panel that is removable, you can take it off to find the timer and take a flat head screw driver to see if you can give it a 1/4 turn, as it may be stuck in defrost. While you are there, you will see the compressor, condenser fan motor, and condenser coil also. Clean this coil while your there and make sure the fan is up and running. If its not running, but the compressor is, the motor has failed. Take these steps and let me know the outcome. Shastalaker7
Bad compressor. Anytime a compressor on anything gets to hot to touch that is a sign that the piston is applying to much pressure to work which in return causes the compressor to go bad if not caught right awya

Was able to get an Authorized Subzero company here this morning with NO emergency service charge. Turns out the fan needs to be replaced and it also needed freon.
If the door jambs are hot, that is either a dirty condensor or a dead condensor fan motor. Make sure the condensor is vacuumed and check to see if the condensor fan is spinning. It should be running anytime either compressor is on. You can clear the service light by holdint the "alarm: button for 15 seconds or turning the unit off and then on again.
If you replace the fan and clean the coils, and the refrigerator STILL does not cool, then contact SubZero or a service provider for an evaporator coil replacement. Units manufacturer before mid-2003 had copper+aluminum coils that would corrode and allow all of the coolant to escape. The (should be warranty) replacement is all aluminum.
Note the freezer does not have this issue due to the lack of liquid water.
1. check the comp. working touch the top of the comp.
2.if the motor comp. working touch the high side tube of the motor comp. if to hot the freon is ok.
3. check the cooling fan inside.
