SOURCE: Panasonic Model TH-42PZ77U doesn't turn on
I contacted Panasonic and it seems that they will take care of the problem even though the TV is out of the 1 year warranty. They are aware that this is a manufacturing defect, apparently. I'll follow up later to let you know how it turns out.

The source of the problem is not the sustain board but the main audio/video board. The one that looks like this(part sjtnpa4360s). Verify if the part number matches with the one in your set. I found one on shopjimmy for 35$

More than likely you have a bad X or Y board. The only solution to that problem is to replace the defective parts. Call the manufacturer and see if your TV is still under warranty. Most of the time if it is under warranty they can dispatch a technician to repair the TV. If not, and you have to fix it yourself you are better off replacing the TV as the cost of repair could easily exceed three hundred dollars.
