No search or no map routing available

Your Magellan RoadMate will update your maps and software directly on the device.

• First perform initial setup on your RoadMate GPS unit:
  • Connect to Wi-Fi.
  • Log in or create a new account. If you already have an account on www.magellangps.com. Please use the same email address and password. Your device will register itself and initial setup is complete.
• Download any available maps and software updates for your RoadMate via WiFi:
  • Tap from the Map screen.
  • Tap Updates when you see a notification (e.g. 2 New Updates).
  • Tap Update on Map Update or Software Update.
  • Wait for the new map or software to download.

Steps to Update Magellan Roadmate 1200 GPS :
1. Go to official website of Magellan and choose "support" option. After selecting the support you will find the various options. You have to select "Manual and Software Update".
2. Choose your product from the drop down the menu and select Roadmate series. A pop up will display on the screen and choose I want to download this update.
3. Hit the "Download Now" button.
4. Checkout every connection under "Redesigns and Maps" to buy Latest Magellan Roadmate Gps Update . "Add the lives maps which are available to your Cart," at the time of proceeding to the "Continue to Checkout."
After completing the process you will get an email from the Magellan. It will later to download the Update on the SD Card itself.

Magellan support was actually pretty good helping me with the exact same issue. The problem (at least in my case) was that the map files were fragmented. I tried using the Windows defragmenter, but that made fragmentation even worse! The Magellan support engineer recommended I download UltraDefrag instead:

Here's what I had to do to completely resolve my issue:
1. Download and install UltraDefrag
2. Connect my GPS to my PC
3. Move the MAP directory from my GPS drive (J:) to my hard disk
4. In UltraDefrag, make sure Action > Skip removable media is not selected
5. Run the optimizer (Ctrl-F7 or Action > Full optimization) after selecting the GPS drive (J: on my computer)
6. Copy the MAP files back to the J: drive AFTER optimization has completed

I double-checked the fragmentation after the files were copied and got 0%. After disconnecting the GPS from the PC, the unit rebooted and doing an address search no longer takes 15 seconds. POI searchs are also much faster than before.

You have to first go online and search Magellan Contact Manager to download that software to manage your device. Once that is done, you connect your device and register it. Then on the menu choose Help and "check for updates". There will be a scan and the available updates for software, maps etc will show, as will their cost if any.

2010 Spring Map Update has been released. Please refer to the map's product page for unit compatibility and installation instructions. You may need to install Magellan's Content Manager on your PC in order to download the latest maps for your unit. To install the Content Manager please click here

To update your magellan roadmate is very simple. But take note, there are two (2) types of updates:

1. Software update, which are free.
2. Maps update, but you have to purchase them.

Either ways you will get both updates from the support link from th magellan website. For software update:

1. first go to the website, www.magellangps.com,
2. Place the cursor on the support link and a list will pop out,
3. From the list select manuals and softwares,
4. Select the manuals and software link that is on the page,
5. You select the vehicle navigation form the list,
6. Once you select the type some other pages come up then you select the road mate,
7. Once you select the road mate, a list comes up, then you select the road mate 1412,
8. Then the download link will pop up, then you click on the link to download it.
9. Once you download it, connect your gps to the computer, then you update it from there.

Sometimes, the moment you have the magellan roadmate software on your computer, as soon as there is a latest update, it will notify you to download it for your gps update.
To update a map,

1. You purchase the maps once they are available from magellan website,
2. go to the website as stated above,
3. place the cursor on the maps ans a list will come out,
4. Select either vehicle navigation maps or outdoor maps depending on what you want to update,
5. Then you select the product type and the product model
6. A page will pop up with the latest map for you to download.
7. Then you add to cart.

That way your maps will be updated.

Magellan® RoadMate® 1200 Software Update Version 1.50/3.12 - Release Notes This update applies to Magellan RoadMate 1200. It includes the following features, fixes, and improvements:

• Map Draw Improvements improve zooming, panning, and time to display the map

The software update version corresponds to your current software version:

• If you have software version 1.46 or 1.48, your software will be updated to v1.50.
• If you have software version 3.10, your software will be updated to v3.12.

You can locate your software version by following these steps:

1. Start at the Main Menu.
2. Press the arrow on the bottom right of the screen.
3. Select "User Options"
4. Select "System Settings"
5. Select "Next"
6. Select "Product Information"
7. Your software version is on the line titled "Firmware Version"

Your best bet is to contact Magellan directly. Their website is not the easiest place I've ever navigated. I did not see a specific listing for the Roadmate 2000, but when I queried them about upgrades for your unit, the response was Roadmate 2000/2200T. Manuals are available, but again nothing was noted about supporting the 2000.

Perhaps it is just a matter of old maps. According to the Magellan web pages, new maps will be available for download and update in August 2007.
