Inground pool with sand filter. When I'm getting ready to vacuum and primed hose with water and insert hose into skimmer it pops off after a few seconds. What could be the problem? Plugged somewhere.

Also had a lot of leaves in pool. Filter basket kept filling with leaves. How do you know sand functioning well. This is first experience with pool. Just bought last winter

What setting do I putmy pump on to vacuum sand out of my pool. I have the sandman 22"?

I'm not familiar with that particular brand, but if you want to get sand out of your pool you should first make sure you're ready to vacuum (with the plate firmly in the skimmer box and connected to your hose and then to your pole with the vacuum head), then turn the multi-port valve (MPV) to 'waste'. If your equipment is below the water line then water may start to come out your waste line - not a drama. Next, just turn the pump on and you will be vacuuming sand straight through the pump and out to wherever your waste line goes.

Be careful to ensure that you don't let the waterline in the pool get below the level of the skimmer box, because if you start to suck air you increase the likelihood of damaging your pump. A good idea is to top up the pool as much as you can with a hose before you start vacuuming, and then top it up again as necessary as your going along.

If you do need to top up the pool, be sure to get your water tested as soon as you can afterward, then top it up with whatever chemicals you may need.

Not self priming itself. when it turns off the water pushes back out of the skimmer and pushes the basket up. it loses water and the pump cant re-prime itself.

PRIME PUMP, OPEN AIR VALVE ON FILTER. OR TAKE THE LID OFF YOUR FILTER AND SEE IF IT STARTS TO PUMP... YOU DO HAVE IT PLUMBED RIGHT? THE PIPE COMING OUT OF THE PUMP GOES TO THE FILTER !! I'M YOUR LOCAL POOL PUMP REPAIR GUY IN LONGWOOD FLORIDA. WHERE THE POOL IS ALWAYS OPEN

How do I vaccum the pool? I dont know if I turn the Veriflow to out and then where do I hook in the hose?..Its my girlfriends pool and she just expects me to know. Thanks

Oh then you DO need help. To vacuum you don't need to change the valve setting on the filter, but if there is a valve on the intake selecting main drain/skimmer you can select skimmer only, but I usually only do this after I have the hose primed. . You attach the hose to the skimmer inlet. Usually there will be a round plate attched to the hose that fits into the skimmer ( you may have to remove the basket) If you don't have that round plate on the hose, then you can insert the hose driectly into the bottom of the skimmer. Before you attach the hose, connect it to the skimmer head on the pole. Submerge the head and hose. Allow to settle to bottom. Put all the hose into the pool. Take the other end and hold over the discharge back into the pool to fill the hose with water (prime) until air bubbles stop coming from vacuum head. Then hold your hand over the hose (to keep from loosing prime) and quickly attach to skimmer. You may hear some air, and the pump may stop pumping fully mommentairly untill it is pumping full water again. Now you can select the valve to divert all the flow from the skimmer
