BEWARE! Bernina machines take a special Bernina-only foot, and even the older Bernina mechanical feet will not fit the newer Berninas, and vice versa.

For the most part, your 1260 uses the old style presser foot--BUT be sure to check as there are some old style that will NOT work on your machine. (Be sure to CONFIRM whether it will work on your machine as I believe the 1260 has some specifics that will not take all old style.) Red marked presser feet are only new style (ie computerized machines). The difference is in how the presser foot is designed at the top where it attaches to the machine. Your Bernina dealer generally carries both the old and new style. BEFORE you buy, be sure to ask whether you are getting the right foot for the 1260!

Look at the top of these presser feet so you can recognize what you need. You are probably safe buying the presser feet that have the 2 pegs at the top (if it has solid peg across the top, it may not work):

You can use snap-on feet BUT you still need a Bernina Adapter in order to do so.

Does my artista 170 have a low shank or a high shank?

Your Artista takes the Bernina foot. A regular presser foot will not work on your Bernina because the attachment mechanism is specific. Be sure to check with your Bernina dealer because there are old style and new style presser feet, and you need to get the right ones for your Artista.

Presser feet for every purpose

Even if you purchase a generic presser foot, you need to be sure you get the Bernina shank(or adapter if it is a snap-on). http://www.nancysnotions.com/product/bernina+shank+adaptor+.do

Is bernina 930 a low shank or high shank machine

Bernina has feet that are specific to their machines only. They have old and new style feet depending when the machine was made. You cannot put generic low, high, slant or snap on feet on a Bernina sewing machine.

Can I use my Bernina Activa 145 walking foot on a Bernina Bernette715?

I'm guessing, but don't think they are interchangeable. From what I've read, the Bernette is actually made by Janome. It appears that the Bernette uses snap-on presser feet and also has a low-shank. The Bernina 145 uses a special peg-in-a-hole design to attach to the machine, although snap-on feet can be used on Bernina machines with a special snap-on adapter. But from the photos, I could locate on the internet, it appears the shank on the 145 is longer. If still in doubt, contact a Bernina dealer.

What would cause my Bernina 1230 to only sew backwards?

Hmmm, not sure I can answer your problem. I have several Berninas (older than your 1230) but have not had this problem. Wondering if your machine needs oiling--like maybe the reverse mechanism is stuck. With mechanical machines, I've been able to loosen stuck parts using heat from a handheld hair dryer. Not sure that would work on your machine.
