This is not unusual in old engines. The oil pressure drops when revs drop to idle speed, due to wear in the main and big end bearings. It isn't serious as long as the pressure rises with revs.

Once past the obvious - making sure your oil is the right grade and the level is correct - you could ask a mechanic to connect an oil pressure gauge to the oil pressure sensor port, and read the pressure at various revs. You should have about 10 psi pressure per 1000 revs.

Occasionally the oil pressure sensor malfunctions and reports a falsely low pressure. Also a possibility is a weak over pressure valve in the oil filter.

2010 subaru forester engine cuts out

consider this
when at the stop lights , you will have your foot on the brake as it will still be in drive or in gear and you don't want the car to move
a simple test is to apply the hand brake to stop the car and don't touch the foot brake
if it idles ok but cuts out when you apply the foot brake , replace the brake booster as it has a vacuum leak that is causing the problem
you can do this test in the garage by starting in neutral and allowing the engine to idle , then apply the foot brake
iof it dies it is the booster

Thank you but that sound i was referring to sounds like the motor rattling when i hit the gas a the stop sign then it goes away in park i can hit the gas a never hear it

It very well could be an internal engine noise. Make sure the oil level is full. You can put the vehicle in gear and while holding your foot on the brake, apply the gas. If it is internal, the noise will most likely be there. If it is a high mileage engine, it could be a rod/crank bearing starting to go and will eventually get louder and more frequent. Most auto repair shops will have a mechanic listen to the noise and advise free of charge

Oil light comes on when braking

Your oil pump is failing.... when your engine rpm drops (when stopping) the pump and engine rpm drop to idle..(light comes on). when you accelerate (rpm's increase) the pumps start working harder and the light goes off.... I am TRULY surprised the dealer(who did you see at the dealer???) did not know this,... THIS IS BASIC STUFF!! ... I mean 090 level mechanics...

Get the oil pump replaced immediately!!!!

Car wont start

when you press the brake pedal the brake master cylinder vacuum booster takes vacuum away from the engine and that slows the idle speed just enough to trigger the low pressure oil light. Pull the oil pressure sending unit out and hook up an oil pressure test gage, if the pressure is above 15 PSI hot engine idle in drive replace the oil pressure sending unit.

2000 jeep grand V8 low idle then dies

A faulty gas cap can cause the sensor to come on.
Clean out the throttle body with a cleaner and see if the idle improves.
