SOURCE: poulan Super 1800 16" chainsaw .

Hi dortfran,
My name is Dennis and I hope to be of assistance.
This sounds like a kink in the chain and I would try a new chain because this can be a very small kink and very difficult to find and straighten out. If you must put the chain saw in a vise by clamping the bar and run the chain back and forth from the sprocket to the bar grove under operating tension and locate the misalignment at the bargrove. Now you have located the problem but the fix is still sweat away, and with some luck you may be able to spring the chain straight and have the link flexable to opporate without a hitch.
Glad to be of assistance. Please rate the solution because i can learn from your rating.
Thank you
Dennis

SOURCE: carb rpl and adjustment

you have 2 screws marked H and L. With the engine running, turn the L (low) screw for best idle. Then for the H (high) screw, Hold at full throttle, turn screw, and listen for smothest and fastest revs.

Poulan " Wild Thing

It is running lean, they always need to run a little on the rich side free running, once the engine is loaded it will then need the excess fuel, it runs ok without the bar and chain because there is no load, start by replacing the fuel filter in the fuel tank, check the fuel hose up to the carb for signs of fuel leakage, replace if reqired, if the carb has standard adjuster screws, increase the H screw by 1/4 turn out ( anto clockwise ) this will richen the mixture.

Poulan 2375 will not idle

This sounds like a simple carb adjustment issue, however there is a special tool required to adjust the mixture, part no. 530035560, once you have the tool richen the L scerw on the carb by unscrewing it by 1/4 turn out, before making this adjustment, try just increasing the idle speed screw on the carb, this requires just a normal screw driver, do not increase it to the point ehere the chain is moving on idle.

Poulan PP4218AV 18" Chain Saw

Sounds loike its running lean, start by replacing the fuel filter on the end of the pipe in the fuel tank, if this does not help you need to richen up the mixture screws, unfortunayly you need a special toll to adjust the screws ( they have a spline, not a screwdriver slot ) the tool is part no. 530035560, once you have the tool unscrew the carb screws 1/2 turn on each and try again.

The screws do not have a flat head? How do I adjust the carb?

if you have plastic caps on the screws you have to pop them off to turn the screws. some screws have a slot and some don't.
for the one's that don't use a pair of needlenose plyers to turn them.

Wont stay running when you let off the gas???

Sound like the carb was never adjusted right. Unfortuatley, the carb adjustment screws require a certain tool that's not available to the public. (EPA thing) You'll have to take it to a shop to get it adjusted. That should solve the problem.

Poulan Wild Thing starts great but as soon as I try to cut it die

The carb low idle needs to be adjusted this is fairly common among the Poulan chain saws. Once you adjust the low idle from factory setting it will work
