The axles go into the transmission and are extended through some bearings and a gear. There should be a groove at the end of the axle. Over this groove, inside the transmission there is a retainer clip. Apparently the retainer clip broke or slipped off. You will have to remove the transmission from the mower. Open the case and replace the retaining clip. These parts are generally available from the tranny manufacturer.

How to repair real tire of lawn tractor model 917.28910

Thanks for providing the full model details of your lawn tractor.
I do not think there is much to wheel removal. The main thing is to pull out the locking washer with the correct tools. Make sure the axle is blocked up.

See page 26 in this manual.

Why does my husqvarna 2448 die when blade engages

I agree with Phil. The safety switch under the seat on my Husqvarna is very sensitive. Sometimes if I hit a large enough bump, it's enough to disengage the switch even with me on the seat.

Freewheel lever broken

For the wire to come all the way out lever on top of the trans must be broken. I've seen a few. Jack rear of mower up, remove rear right wheel and find remnants of lever. With pliers turn this all the way forward, mower will now go. But to fit new lever trans will have to be removed. Dont forget the axle key.

My 42" Husqvarna (model #917.279240

Remove the center dust caps from the rear axles, start the tractor up and put it in gear and observe the axles, if one of them is spinning freely inside the wheel, you have lost the 1/4" square key that pins the wheel to the axle. Replace the key and you can go back to mowing. Hope this helped Tim

I have a husqvarna lawn tractor how do i take the

Hi,
I don't know what model you have, but if the wheel has a single bolt in the center of the rim, the wheel is pressed onto the axle shaft and a puller is required to pull the rim off once the bolt is removed. For reinstalling, the bolt will press the rim back onto the shaft.
Hope this helps... Good luck!

I have a 2005 husqvarna lawn tractor. 24 hp, 48 in deck, the transmission runs fine on level ground but when i go to an incline the tranny slips and i hear a clunking sound, and if i travel farther up hill...

sorry. I don't have an ansewer for you however I might have some helpful hints. Your mower should be going dam near 5 MPH. But yes can't cut in reverse. you have a belt going from the trans axle to the motor. It could be slapping against the frame. The idler puller or the tension pulley could be wobaly where the bearings are gone out. If you remove the 4 bolts on the back of the mower under the seat and gas tank it should visable tell you the story. My question is mine hits gears real hard as if trans mission needs oil or internal damage.

Removing tire from SEARS CRAFTSMAN LT1000 TRACTOR.

You need to remove the black rubber cap from the center of the wheel. Remove the "C" clip from the axle and the wheel should come off. The rear tires will have a square key in it. Do not loose the key.
