Hey Joe,
Wow.. where to start.. there are so many things that will cause the issue you are describing. What type of electronics do you have? Does this happen at all speeds? Where is the transducer mounted? I need more info about when it stops reading.
1.Wrong setting on the unit
2 Bad transducer
3 Bad transducer mounting (either inside the hull or outside the hull.)
4. (In hull) Turbulence going under the boat (mine quits reading at about 55 mph @ half trim...the boat is lifting so much it causes air pockets so the transducer loses contact with the water)
5. (Outside hull) Turbulence around the bottom of the boat where the transducer meets the water.
Good luck,, when you get the info.. reply to me..

U turn on depth finder. shows correct depth say 20 ft. then next u know showing 350ft. whats up with this?

Most depth finders have auto range and manual range. In auto range the transducer sounds the bottom and automaticly will switch the range. If the range is set to manual then its probably picking up the bottom upon start-up and going back to your manual range setting. I'd start there..
Good luck Aloha

Doesn't work on fast flowing river

Many depth finders don't work when the transducer sees a little turbulence. My only suggestion is to try different locations for the transducer, trying to guess where there will be the least turbulence beneath it. This is easy if your transducer is mounted inside the hull and reads through the hull. Not so easy if it is a through-hull mount. Be sure it is mounted correctly to the hull if it is mounted inside the hull.

When we are deep water (500 ft or deeper) the fish finder will display 3.5-10 ft. and won't show the fish or shows tons of fish. Are we able to set the depth that we would like to see eg: if we are...

Im not familiar with your particular unit but you should be using a low frequency transducer for water over 500'; something like a 50 kHz transducer or a dual frequency transducer like a 50/200kHz for detail with the high freq. but increased depth range on the lower frequency. As far as setting it to 250 ft, you should be able to use the range feature and adjust the maximum to 250'. typically the factory default is automatic so it will caonstantly adjust the range based on the maximum current depth.

Marine Faria depth finder, with thru the hull transducer.

I'm having the exact same problem. I spoke with the service manager at Faria (Ted) and he was thinking that as long as the gauge is showing a reading, it should default to reading the depth. I'll probably send the guage in to FARIA - they'll repair it for $55. You bring up a good point - maybe the transducer is bad? I put a call in to the Tedmeister to see what he thinks. I'll post if he sheds any light.

My depth finder flashes 00.0 I can not get it to work

The shallow water sensitivity adjustment is set too far to an extreem. Center the adjustment, then recalibrate at the dock.

Problem with navman 4150 fish finder

I installed my Navman 4150 depth finder along with the Navman GPS unit when I purchased my Bayliner Trophy 20Ft. Offshore model. Everything was ok for one year and it has been downhill since then. Losing signal, unbelievable high depth ranges, blank periods, etc.. I now can't even get a reading tieded up at the dock. I am now giving up and shoping for a quality unit.. Cape Disappointment.........

4150sx finder erratic depth

I had the same problem last time I was out in shallow water (in less than 2 metres of water) and I suspect that the problem was weed wrapped around the transducer but won't know for sure until I take it out on the water again. I had another problem re water temp which I'll enter separately.
