There should be a label on the indoor or outdoor unit telling you the charge amount. You also have to consider the length of the pipe run which may need extra R22 added per meter after about 7m. But since R22 is being phased out world wide, it is usually extremely expensive and you're probably better off cutting your losses and installing a new one.
Doesn't matter how big the unit is, pressures remain the same. On a satisfied temperature, approximately 75 degrees, r22 should be around 65 psi. The hotter the house, the higher the pressure. Head pressure varies on outdoor temperature. 90 degrees outdoor temp, approximately 200 to 225 psi on high side.
My guess is compressor motor overtemp cutout. So why is the motor overheating? Possibles: Needs bearing oil, bad bearings, compressor too much pressure, overfull with freon, mechanical friction, cooling fan not turning.
Suggest set thermostat to demand less cooling, see if compressor stays on longer.
You have a LEAK from installation that must be found & repaired before any more GAS is added to the system. Then it will normaly need a little gas every 3 years.
If you had to fill the coolant reservoir, that means there was a leak to begin with. Leaks do not resolve themselves. Unless the leak was fixed, filling the reservoir will only pressuring the system until the current freon level also leaks. The leak also tends to get bigger without repairs. You could try to place stop leak in it, Or replace the damaged part. Remember, the reservoir is under pressure. Good luck.
Gas has leaked from inner or outer unit kindly get it checked by service men they will find the leak and charge the gas again normally after some time it gets rusty inside as water is involved and got leak
