Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud

Amazon Web Services Elastic Cloud Compute, or EC2 instances, are virtual machines (VMs) in the cloud that allow you to perform activities without the need for on-premises hardware such as desktop or physical servers. AWS services offer configurable EC2 VM instances with your choice of CPU, operating system, storage, RAM, and so on.

Because EC2 instances are virtual devices, they boost security and availability. VMs can be distributed across all AWS Availability Zones and geographical areas without relying on on-premises hardware.

You can run different operating systems on your EC2 instances. For example, Amazon Linux, Ubuntu Server, CentOS, Windows Server, and others. EC2 is extremely compatible with Amazon Virtual Private Cloud (VPC), allowing you to access fully functioning networking and computation capacity from your cloud infrastructure.

Virtual machines, like all other AWS services, offer on-demand web services that allow you to scale up or down instances based on your business needs.
