Hi, I have a Maytag Centennial washer. We recently experienced a power surge in our home. The washer does everything it should - except cycle. Could this be the time motor? Thank you! David

Depending on your washer model it is most likely in some events of a power surge that the timer knob could be damaged and need of replacement

Thank you so much, Denkichu! I am ordering the part now. I'll let you know how things work.

Before I order - this is the timer itself, correct? The part that the knob attaches to, not the physical knob that you turn?

your welcome and yes that would be the part there now notice that even so if its not a timer that doesnt move its a switching knob but your welcome glad i could help ;P

Coninuosly repeats spin cycle, any suggestions how to remedy this? I have to manually cancel the cycle in order for the machine to stop recycling through spin

I had a Centennial washer on a service call doing this just the other day... After putting it trough diagnostics I found no errors and all the washer's mechanics tested okay. After resetting the control by putting it trough the diagnostics mode it continued to repeat cycles without restarting the washer.
  • Try running it through diagnostics and see what error codes are in the memory. (Guide is linked below)
  • What are the codes? do they give any more clues?
  • clear the codes and run a test cycle.
  • does it work?
  • if it checks out properly with the diagnostics it's probably a bad control board...

If it does turn out to be the control try contacting Maytag (Whirlpool) for a parts concession... Whirlpool customer service guide is linked below.
Hope that helps! Good luck!

Wash cycle will agitate 3 spins then nothing for a few minutes then 3 more and nothing again and repeat over and over

you may want to put it through a diagnostics cycle and check for error codes... Maytag Centennial Washer Repair Guide
The tub sensor can cause the washer to act strangely like that. Also there are two mechanical styles of washer branded Maytag Centennial. The model number would help to know we are talking about the one I think we are talking about.
Hope that helps!

Maytag centennial top load washer control know tics but does not advance through teh cycles

The cycle dial runs like a clock and advances through each cycle and opens and closes each stage by contacts so I would say that the 1st cycle contact has burnt out which would prevent or in some cases a short will burn out the lot, usually from a power surge so if you don't have the knowledge i'm afraid it is the serviceman. But be assured that you make sure he makes that one of the first points of checking.

Maytag centennial washer will not agitate

If it is belt driven the belt might be broken. It is underneath the washer

I have a Maytag Centennial Top Load Washer. When I start a wash load, the machine is starting in a "spin" cycle. It does not matter which cycle I choose. I have let it run through to see if it...

Unfortunately it sounds like your gearbox may be seized. I would strongly recommend getting an experienced maytag service agent in to have a look at it because they are quite difficult to repair. I'm sorry for the bad news, hope it helped though.

Maytag centennial washer - power went out while washer was operating. When power was restored the washer does not cycle. I have to turn it manually through the cycles.

Set the timer to any off position. Unplug the unit for 10 minutes. Plug it back in and try that. The worst thing
you can do to a Maytag washer is advance the timer yourself...hope this helps.
