I am missing the quick release part of an Ambico tripod (which is at least 10 - 11 years old, & not sure what model it is). I checked e-bay for release parts, but had no luck yet. Anyone know if the release part from a new tripod would fit an older one, or another place I could check?

I also need a quick release and the company doesn't really care that we need the parts. I have 2 of them. One I fell over and bent and the other needs a quick release. Maybe I should offer them for parts

The http://www.tripodquickrelease.com site recommends the QS-14 plate. I have found a better plate for these than the QS-14, which fits but is a bit sloppy.
I took my Ambico to the local camera store and test fitted several candidates. The plate for the Promaster 7100/7150/7400/7450 is a perfect, snug fit. This plate is listed as the 3783 on the tripodquickrelease site. However, the Promasters are current products, so you can probably get a plate for any of those models from almost any camera supply (B&H, Adorama, etc) for much less than the premium prices on tripodquickrelease. I even found them at my local store for much less.

This site posted by Lissa713 was a great site for finding my tripods quick release plate:

http://www.tripodquickrelease.com

I found my quick release for my Vanguard AK-4 on this site quickly and easily. The price was reasonable as well.

I recommend this site to any one who needs to find their quick release as well.

Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be a quick source for parts for Ambico tripods (: I have one. Fortunately, they are not very expensive- eBay had several for less than $10 starting bid.
I got parts for my Velbon tripod from: http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQsassZspartanphotocenter
You may wish to contact them, perhaps they have a source for you.

Have a look on Ebay, or try the rummage box at your local friendly camera dealer.

Remove head from ambico v-0554

This is as close as I got to removing part of the head from the V-0554 model because I need to repair the tilt angle setting clamp/handle. On the side of the head where you find the handle, there are two plugs you can remove to reveal 2 phillips head screws. Remove those and the head can be parted, left side from right side but take care to contain the loaded spring in the quick release lever. I've damaged the plugs trying to pull 'em out but that part doesn't bother me. If it bothers you, take better care in extracting them--it ain't easy. :)

I lost the camera attachment for my Ambico trypod. Where can I purchase a replacement?

Try www.TripodQuickRelease.com for that part. There is listed the widest selection of quick releases and support more brands than any other web site I've seen. Because your tripod is not supported by the manufacturer; parts lists and pars are not available, you should measure the opening and see what other brand quick releases will work paying attention to the shape and locking mechanism. Otherwise just get another tripod.

How to put a camera on it

If it's a quick release tripod you need to remove the quick release plate (Usually a release lever to the side of the top of the tripod) and then fasten the plate securely to the camera and then the plate to the tripod. Older non-quick-release tripods have a knurled screw located below the flat area where the camera is attached. If the screw is missing, get a relacement from your local hardware store - 1/4" -20. (Find a way to keep the new one from getting lost.)
