You did not say which model you had so I copied what I could find in manuals for Technika MP3 Players. I am sure you will find the user manual to explain when your MP3 player is fully charged.
I will also include the generic way to hook up and download songs to your MP3 player.
Go to the webpages below and download your User Manual and Quick Guide.

1...You must download and install Windows Media Player 11 on your computer. NOTE...Some older MP3 players will not work with Windows Media Player 11 or Windows 7 with Windows Media Player 11. If this happens to you, then you will have to uninstall Windows Media Player 11 and install Windows Media Player 10. 2...After you have downloaded and installed Media Player on your computer. 3...Open Media Player on your computer. 4...Install all your music into Media Player that you want to install on your MP3 player. 5...Plug in your MP3 player to the computer using your Data/Sync cord, be sure that Windows Media Player is on. 6...Media player should recognize the MP3 player and sync with it. 7...After it is sync'ed with the computer, you can add the music you have installed into Windows Media Player to your MP3 Player. I work for Coby technical support. Our customer service phone number is 1-800-727-3592.
Try reformatting the player and then reloading your music. To reformat, follow these steps:
Step
Connect the unit to your computer via the USB port.
Step2 Double-click the My Computer icon on your desktop, or, click your start button and choose My computer from the right side of the start menu.
Step3 Right-click the icon for the Coby player.
Step4 Choose Format from the menu that appears, and choose quick format after that.
If you just bought it, By all means return it! Otherwise call sansa tech support. The're rather good for tech suppport people. If you bought an extended warranty, the place you bought it from should replace/repair it and you troubles will be over!
