I have a Fellowes PS-65C Shredder that doesn't shred or shredder doesn't spin.
The unit powers on but the shredder doesn't spin anymore, it just emits a low humming noise. Hopefully you have fix for this. Got a ton more things to shred. Thanks in advance.
Re: I have a Fellowes PS-65C Shredder that doesn't shred...
Yes, it often happens when you put too much in at one time. Or it might be a staple. Try putting it in reverse and pulling the papers back out at the same time. If you flip it upside down and see that the blades are clear, then the motor is probably burned out.
Good luck!

You can only buy new one or block a microswitch inside. Basket from Fellowes PS-67Cs can be used too. If you use this shredder privately just block the microswitch.
You wil need to Have the shredding head rebuilt or replaced. and or a new machine. A new head is very expensive. Here is the number for fellows 800-955-0959. Check on parts if they are still available. Hope this helps your friendly service tech (colorado).
you will need to UNplug the unit , then take it apart 9 screws then gently pry it apart with a screwdriver or butter knife
you could test this with a voltmeter, one side emits a constant should have 5-12 volts across this
the other side the reciever will change its voltage when you break the signal with a piece of paper.
also ive seen chunks of plastic break off from inside and as the teeth rotate the plastic can cut the wire
Shredders have a light emitter and detector inside the slot where you put the paper. When the paper is put in, the emitted light is reflected off the paper, detected, and then turns on the shredder by sending a signal to the control board. The emitter/detector often has a plastic cover which over time collects paper dust. The paper dust can reflect the emitted light back onto the detector, causing the shredder to remain on. You may need to remove the top of the shredder and remove the shredding mechanism to get to the light sensor. It's also possible that the components on the control board have changed value, causing the detector sensitivity to increase. This may result in the unit turning itself on in daytime and off at night.
Your problem is probally with the safety interlock switch on your machine. On the PS-65c It is located on the right hand side of the unit. There will be a tab of plastic on the inside lip of the basket that goes into a slot on shredder head. If plastic piece is bent or broken machine will not operate. If it does not appear broken make sure when you put shredder head on that it fits flush all the way around on the basket. If none of this helps contact Fellowes Customer Service at 1-800-945-4545 and we will be glad to assist you further.
