You say "used" it may be the person who sold it you gave you the wrong remote. I should look around on Google for the model number and the number on the remote, to see if the two match up. If you have the manual it will often list the remote number. If you don't, try the Daewoo website, sometimes they have free PDF's of manuals. You could also ask them if the remote matches your model.
Otherwise it could be a fault in the electronics section of the VCR.

If this is for the Daewoo DV-K285P VCR, here is a manual for the DV-K280, it should be the same thing, or close enough:

go to Daewoo website and download it

your vcr timing is out or mode switch isfaulty.disconect vcr from plug for 20 sec plug back the tape mechanism should reset
