Does anything start to work? Any of the three fans start to turn, Lamp ignite, etc., when you press the power button or does nothing happen before the Red LED starts blinking. How many times does the RED LED blink?
It has a Thermal Fuse that is either mounted to the side of the Lamp Housing or underneath it and it is probably bad. The Replacement Thermal fuse will mount to the side of the Lamp Housing. Because the Optical Block must be removed to replace it, I recommend that a Sony Professional repair it. If you need help in finding one, call Sony at 1800-222-SONY and they could help you find one local to you.
I hope this helps,

I have the same problem with my unit. I've been removing the bulb and just replace it back and unit will work again. I probably need to vacuum or check the fan out too.
4 blinks is a fan error, check and see if the fans are clogged with dirt. Unplug the set then take the back off and get some canned air and blow the fans out.
Try to access the self-diagnosis screen. With the TV off, push in sucession, the "mute, then the number "5" button, and then the volume down button, and finally the pwer button. When the picture comes on, there will be a list of different circuits and to the right are numbers which represent how many times that particular circuit had a malfunction. Sometimes the red blinking LED code is itself in error, so this may help to clarify the root cause of your problem. Now, if the TV will not stay on long enough to perform the previous operation, you should consider replacing the large exhaust fan that is in front of the lamp assy. This has been the problem fan in these sets.
I have a Sony KDS-R60XBR2 60" SXRD and the power/standby light flashes green 96 times than it switches to a RED lamp light that flashes steady. Do you know what it means?
I think this sounds like my problem (need to replace the projector lamp). However, when I hit the "on" button, my SXRD 50" blinks green for about a minute then starts blinking red. Can you confirm the bulb solution? I was very pleased with this sight when my fan malfunctioned. I got the fan in a matter of day's from Sony and it fixed that problem.
4 red blinks indicates a fan error. usually blowing duster inside the fan blades will cure this. there are 4 fans inside this tv. looking from the back of the tv, the large fan on the left side is usually the culprit...good luck to ya
