SOURCE: Subtitle Problem: Onkyo TX-sr605
The only remote that will definitely turn the sat subtitles on/off is the sat remote. The other subtitle buttons on the other remotes refer to the DVD subtitles and the subtitles generated by the tuner in the tv. The subtitle option is greyed out on the tv because you are not on the tv tuner.

This is Not a real Fix, However it stops the problem!
Do not plug any power cords into the Receiver. I have found that using the "switched or unswitched" plugs in the back cause the trouble.

you cannot control a ps3 with that remote because the playstation 3 only works with bluetooth. I'm sorry to have to tell you. you can purchase a remote that works with your system at any that sells your system.
hope this helped

SOURCE: My Onkyo tx-sr606 7.1 receiver turns off by itself
hi, when the unit shuts off by itself, it means that the protection circuity inside has been activated. it can be a problem with the receiver itself or it is just detecting something hooked up to it that can cause possible damage so it shuts off.
you would need to disconnect everything from the back and by itself, try to turn it on, see if it will stay on and then crank the volume way up to max. if it stays on, the receiver is ok and you then need to rehook your devices one by one starting with the speakers until you determine the one causing the receiver to shut off.
however, if the receiver shuts off and won't turn on even by itself, it means that the problem is internal and it either has to go back to your dealer for an exchange or it has to be sent to a repair center for servicing.
hope this helps a bit.. ^_^

I had the same problem with my xbox 360. I was able to fix the problem by disabling the Display Discovery setting on the xbox.
