Question about KitchenAid Ovens

Open Question

Kitchenaid model KEMS307G. Latch would not open after self-clean. Tech removed latch. Oven-microwave functional. He replaced latch mechanism, now control panel doesn't work.drawing 240v. not 80v.

Tech claims latch mechanism melted. Oven/microwave worked fine before and after latch removal. It now appears the control panel is bypassed and oven is wired direct. Cannot shut oven off, only at circuit breaker.

SOURCE: "Door Locked" flashing on GE Oven JTP15 - can't unlock

The problem may very well be in one of the micro switches on the self cleaning motor bracket. These switches control the electrical flow to the heating elements. In the owners manual there is/should be a chart that lists the unlock and safety combinations. This would be your best source of information.

You have to slide the oven partially out of the wall and there is a metal cover panel on top...remove it and you will be able to access the wiring panels, etc.

SOURCE: Self-cleaning feature of GE Built-In Oven does not work

Simply set the Clock and Delay Start to the current time, then set the Stop Time ahead 3 hours. For example, if it is currently 8:00 then set the Stop Time to 11:00. The lights on the console will come on and the cleaning cycle will begin. At some point during the cycle when the oven gets hot enough, the lock mechanism is "fixed" and will not release until the cycle is complete.

Unlock GE JB550GJ - Manual Self-Clean Latch

Self cleaning programs break things 80% of the time. You should never ever use that cycle. 650'F is too brutal to elements, fans, latches and circuit boards that are above the oven. I have never known one with a manual latch.

You need a new stove or a GE Technician service call.

Even parts seem hard to come by if that model number is correct.

KITCHENAID OVEN MODEL KEMS 308 SELF CLEANING

Good Morning,
Sometimes an F5E1 will appear when the control board is faulty.. because it isn't properly driving the door latch circuit properly. If the door latch assembly is fully functional, we recommend sending in your oven control board to Fixyourboard.com for testing and/or repairs. Reach out to them at 512-355-1108 or [email protected] They also have replacement touchpads for this model oven if needed.

F5E1 or FSE1 error code DOOR LOCKED LATCH NOT OPERATING

On this double oven, each door has it's own latch mechanism that consists of a motor, a position switch, and the door switch used to activate the cavity lights. Because the error indicated a latch failure (and the bottom door was locked), Start by cycling the power to the unit. Each time the power is removed and then applied to these ovens, both latches will lock then unlock the doors to ensure they are in the home open position. By doing so, you might be able to get the bottom oven door opened allowing me access to the latch assembly. With the latch removed, I try to begin a clean cycle so you could watch the motor operate and you will probably find that it will start to turn, but never would rotate enough to lock the door. Since the position switch was not actuated at the end of the motor operation, the F5 E1 error was again displayed. Replace the motor assembly

We have a 24" wall

The problem is due to the door latch and specially one of the two micro switches is not contact properly that is why when you cracked little the oven can work little better. So all you need is check the latch at the back and if nessesary replace the latch

the latch the hooks into the door is caught inside the slot where it locks into when in self clean, you have to move the latch, unplug it,look through the air vents or slots up above the door if you can get a screw driver in there try to move the latch or if you can get something down inside to move the latch,i used a plastic long wire tie to do this before,i slid the tie down around the metal hook part of the latch that locks into the door, and pulled it to the left and got the door to open,it got hung up in the hole and the door wouldn't open but what ever works you have to move the hook part of the latch to get the door open, you can try picking up on the door to see if you can get it open or you'll have to pull the oven out and take the top off to get at the latch, hope this helps

Can I clean a TruTemp oven with soap and water without ruining it?

Hi,

Yes you could clean it.

Check few details :-

t the bottom of this post you will find the web address for your ranges manual and the self clean system is in side this manual.

How to self clean

If your model has a door latch, never force the latch handle. Forcing the handle will damage the door lock mechanism.
The oven door must be closed and all controls set correctly for the cycle to work properly.
Before a Clean Cycle
For the first self-clean cycle, we recommend
venting your kitchen with an open window
or using a ventilation fan or hood.
Remove any broiler pan, broiler grid, all
cookware, probe and any aluminum foil
from the oven—they cannot withstand the
high cleaning temperatures.
NOTE:
If your oven is equipped with nickel oven
shelves, remove them before you begin
the self-clean cycle.

If your oven is equipped with gray
porcelain-coated oven shelves, they may
be left in the oven during the self-clean
cycle.
Soil on the front frame of the range and
outside the gasket on the door will need to
be cleaned by hand. Clean these areas with
hot water, soap-filled scouring pads or
cleansers such as Soft Scrub®. Rinse well
with clean water and dry.
Do not clean the gasket. The fiberglass
material of the oven door gasket cannot
withstand abrasion. It is essential for the
gasket to remain intact. If you notice it
becoming worn or frayed, replace it.
Wipe up any heavy spillovers on the oven
bottom.
Make sure the oven light bulb cover is in
place and the oven light is off.
IMPORTANT: The health of some birds
is extremely sensitive to the fumes given
off during the self-cleaning cycle of any
range. Move birds to another well ventilated
room.

NOTE: Use caution when opening the upper
oven after the self-clean cycle has ended.
The oven may still be hot.

How to Set the Upper Oven for Cleaning
On models with Gas/Control Lockout,
touch and hold the Gas/Control Lockout
pad for 3 seconds to turn it off.
NOTE: The surface burners must be turned
off prior to the self-clean start time.
If your model has a latch, latch the door.
Touch the Self Clean pad.
Using the number pads, enter the
desired clean time, if a time other than
4 hours is needed.
Clean cycle time is normally 4 hours. You can
change the clean time to any time between
3 hours and 5 hours, depending on how dirty
your oven is.
Touch the Start pad.
On models without a door latch, the door
locks automatically. The display will show
the clean time remaining. It will not be
possible to open the oven door until the
temperature drops below the lock
temperature and the LOCKED DOOR
light goes off.
The oven shuts off automatically when the
clean cycle is complete.
When the LOCKED DOOR light is off,
slide the latch handle to the left as far
as it will go and open the door. If your
range does not have a latch, the door
will unlock automatically.
The words LOCK DOOR will flash and
the oven control will signal if you set
the clean cycle and forget to close the
oven door or forget to latch the door
on models with a latch.
To stop a clean cycle, touch the Clear/Off
pad. When the LOCKED DOOR light goes
off, indicating the oven has cooled below
the locking temperature, unlatch the door
(on models with a latch) and open the door
The oven door must be closed and all controls set correctly for the cycle to work properly.

How to Delay the Start of Cleaning
Make sure the clock shows the correct time
of day.
On models with Gas/Control Lockout,
touch and hold the Gas/Control Lockout
pad for 3 seconds to turn it off.
NOTE: The surface burners must be turned
off prior to the self-clean start time.
If your model has a latch, latch
the door.
Touch the Self Clean pad.
Using the number pads, enter the
desired clean time.
Touch the Delay Start pad. The earliest
start time you can set will appear in the
display.
Using the number pads, enter the time
of day you want the clean cycle
to start.
Touch the Start pad.
On models without a door latch, the door
locks automatically. The display will show the
start time. It will not be possible to open the
oven door until the temperature drops below
the lock temperature and the LOCKED DOOR
light goes off.
The oven shuts off automatically when the
clean cycle is complete.
When the LOCKED DOOR light is off,
slide the latch handle to the left as far
as it will go and open the door. If your
range does not have a latch, the door
will unlock automatically.
The words LOCK DOOR will flash and the
oven control will signal if you set the clean
cycle and forget to close the oven door or
forget to latch the door on models with
a latch.
To stop a clean cycle, touch the Clear/Off
pad
. When the LOCKED DOOR light goes
off, indicating the oven has cooled below
the locking temperature, unlatch the door
(on models with a latch) and open the door.

After a Clean Cycle
You may notice some white ash in the oven.
Wipe it up with a damp cloth after the
oven cools.
If white spots remain, remove them with a
soap-filled scouring pad and rinse thoroughly
with a vinegar and water mixture.
These deposits are usually a salt residue
that cannot be removed by the clean cycle.
If the oven is not clean after one clean cycle,
repeat the cycle.
You cannot set the oven for cooking until
the oven is cool enough for the door to
unlock.
While the oven is self-cleaning, you can
touch the Clock pad to display the time
of day. To return to the clean countdown,
touch the Cooking Time pad.
If the shelves become hard to slide, apply a
small amount of vegetable oil or cooking oil
to a paper towel and wipe the edges of the
oven shelves with the paper towel.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!
