Call yourself from another line or phone and leave a message. Check your messages and it will go away.

Without call waiting or a second line, callers will get a busy signal if you're already on a call. This happens at the switchboard; it doesn't matter what type of answering machine you have because the second call doesn't get that far.
You can record your own message on the 1739 but, as mentioned above, if you're already on a call then the second call never gets that far.

The term we used for this back when I worked for the phone company was a "stuck message waiting indicator" and the way to fix it was:

Call yourself and leave a message.
Hang up and wait 2 minutes (we used to say 5 minutes, but 2 is plenty)
Retreive/delete your voice mail message
Hang up and wait 2 minutes

New message indication The message display counter will flash when there are new answering system messages. If the new message alert tone is turned on, the telephone base will beep every ten seconds when there are unreviewed messages. Message playback Press /PLAY/STOP to listen to messages. Press /PLAY/STOP again to stop playback. If you have new messages waiting, you will hear only new messages (oldest first). If there are no new messages, the system will play back all messages (oldest first). When playback begins, the total number of messages is announced, followed by the day and time of the first message to be played. Options during playback Press VOL+/VOL to adjust the speaker volume. Press >>/SKIP to skip to the next message. Press<</REPEAT to repeat the message currently playing. Press <</REPEAT twice to listen to the previous message. is the nec dsx telephone voicemail light red or green...?
if it's green, it's not the voicemail light, rather, it's the caller id missed call indicator. just look through your missed calls and it will go out... or if you have the admin software, go to class of service, station, and disable the caller-id alert lamp.

even thou they delete apparently they are still on the comp  i think not sure thou if u go into history or cookies   something like that look along those lines  hope u find them..

There is no retreival of deleted messages. I went to the VTech web page, downloaded the PDF manual, and read the notations there.
