Need the cd for older Dell Inspiron computer because the cd contains a needed key. A used cd will do. Problem is new cd from Dell will cost $100. So, I'm trying to cut cost and save old computer. Thanks
I may be able to help. What is the version of WIN8 on your key? i.e. Home, Pro, etc.

the read on the drive may be faulting, especially if taking forever to rip cd's, but then that can be different on each cd as some tracks are read easily the others, not so. The other problem possibility, may be related to both ripping and dvd playing in that you are running a little low on memory, the minimum amount needed with XP for simple tasks is 512MB, so see what you have installed. tests only normally check read and write speeds, and not neccasarilly whether your drive is about to fail or not. If the drive is faulty, then a replacement dvd burner will be around $65, not a lot, and you can use any make of burner to replace it.
SOURCE: Need adaptor for older Sony analog camcorder - CCD-TRV70 DC 6V
You need to get a Digital to Analogue converter such as the Canopus ADVC110 A/D Converter. (circa $225). There may be cheaper alternatives. (you might also be able to use a digital camcorder that has a built in Analogue to digital converter):
Canopus 77010150100 ADVC110 Converter
The Canopus comes with a 6-pin firewire cable. Since your Dell Studio has a 4 pin Firewire (actually called iLink) you will also need a 6-pin to 4-pin cable or an adapter:
Firewire 6-PIN To 4-PIN Cable
Cables To Go - 27028 - Firewire 6-Pin Female 4-Pin Male Adapter
You hook your Sony up to the A/D converter with audio and video cables (usually supplied with your camcorder) and hook the converter to you Dell with a firewire cable. Then you capture the video using some video capture software. I don't know what comes with windows these days.
SOURCE: Missing Windows XP Product Key-Need to Reinstall/Repair XP
I'm assuming you have quite a lot of computer savvy??? You'll need to access that drive and get the original key off it. Try connecting the drive to another pc and see if you can get to the Windows folder. Once there, use Jellybean Keyfinder to navigate to the Windows folder in that drive and take note of the OS key. From there you can reformat and use the existing key.
SOURCE: hi, I have lost the recovery cd for my dell inspiron 710 m
You can attempt to recover the system using the built-in recovery partition (if your system has one). Shut down the computer completely, and restart it with the power button. When the Dell logo appears, try pressing Ctrl-F11 or Alt-F11 at this screen, and if your system has the recovery partition, it should boot to it, and give you instructions on how to restore your system using this method. If this does not work, however, you can request Dell to send you replacement recovery disks for your model of computer by going *here* Just keep in mind Dell may charge for the disks, so if you do need to order them, be prepared to pay a minor fee, by using a credit card on their secured website. (Usually $20-40 USD)
Whatever the circumstances, be forewarned that restoring your system with either of these methods will erase the contents of your hard drive, so be sure to back up your important files that you cannot afford to lose *BEFORE* doing the restore, as you will not be able to get them back without advanced data recovery services, which can get extremely expensive.

This is a common problem, I don't think the LCD per say is bad. The backlight tube may be bad or the power inverter that powers it may be bad. GO to support.dell.com and search for these parts, get them both and replace them both. It is tricky as you must dissasemble your laptop lid panel.
