My set was zapped by a nearby lightning strike. The screen still works. But it won't do anything past the "Vizio Internet Apps" screen. It then times it and shuts the screen off. It is a model #E422VA

Pull the plugs on everything - going to everything, starting with the TV and on out. Let everything just set for 20 min. Then, hook everything up to the TV BEFORE you plug in the TV. Turn it on. Good luck. . .

SOURCE: Kenwood basic M2 Amp Lightning strike

you can check the output transistors for short circuits with the low ohms range or diode checker . If they have failed, then it is often a good idea to replace all as much stress can be placed on an output array in this type of failure. to repair reliable, all outputs on an offending channel should be replaced.

Make sure the fuse you replaced was the same type of fuse. check markings.... T stands for sloblo... a fast blo duse may let go at turn on. The power supply may have a shorted rectifier diode in it also.

be aware however, every time a fuse of that rating blows... more damage may be occurring to the amp.

SOURCE: My Bose Wave radio died after a lightning strike

There is 0,5A fuse inside the unit. If that is blown, you can replace it.

TV out after lightning strike. TV led light comes on for 5-10 seconds then shuts off. Phillips 46pfl3505d/f7. Can this be fixed?

Sure it can be fixed. Most likely a problem with the power supply being zapped by the lightning.

Check to see what the price of a new PS is and is cost effective given the age of the set.

Would replacing the main board fix my TV?

We can't predict what might have been happened during a lightning strike. If the TV is dead now; the main power supply regulator board [SMPS] board is fault. If so, you have to replace it first. then only we can get information about the condition of the main board. If the TV was connected to external Ariel or cable; before the lightning stroke; the possibility to damage to the main board too is there upto 80%.
In fact, if both of this boards are damaged, it might cost around 2/3rd of the total cost of a new TV.
The decision left to you. Do whatever you want.

I have a LED TV that was hit with a power surge caused by lightning.

Could be your household insurance would cover the damage.

Unless the lightning strike was very local to you, on your side of the local substation, the responsibility for the cost of repair or replacement could be the power company's.

Surges from lightning strikes aren't supposed to get past the electrical substation.

Old-fashioned valve tvs and radios sometimes survived huge surges on the powerline and even minor lightning strikes to the antenna but solid state semi-conductors and micro chips aren't very tolerant to overloads of any sort. These days a tv is not longer a tv in the conventional sense but like cars and radios should be considered as just another computer that is full of CMOS chips which are extremely sensitive to overloads and static discharges. Even the screen of your tv is made up of semi-conductors.

I would be very surprised if the set isn't a write-off.

How check pcb after lightning strikes??

Over voltages as little as 20% greater than expected (under the right circumstances) can cause components to fail with no outward indication of failure. Other times, these same or greater voltages will obliterate a component and without the benefit of a schematic will make identifying & replacing it impossible.

Nearby lightning strikes often cause multiple components on different PCB to fail at the same time, complicating troubleshooting significantly. Faults can appear on power supply PCBs and in the RF stages along antenna / cable inputs and out to cable boxes DVD players, etc.

These are usually not fixed by DIYers without specialized test equipment and manufacturer's service manuals.

Will a nearby lightning strike cause a power board failure?

It could happen yes it would depend where the strike entered the TV. Not all lighting strikes hit on the electrical lines, on a TV they can come through the cable, as well as a antenna if you have one hooked up.

I had a nearby lightning strike. Now I get "no

Hi
Just try with component input, and see whether it works fine. If it works fine with component input, the tuner section in your TV has got damaged. Soem Vizio sets will have dual tuner; one for analogue and the other for digital. Lighning stroke will damage the tuners first, than any other components inside a TV, because it has been alway connected to cable. Check the component video. If it also does not work, the mother board of your TV is faulty. Some type of fault will be repairable. If the fault is serious, you have to replace its main board istself. OK.

Lightning strike nearby, no power from the card what so ever

The most likely explanation is the high voltage from the lightning has probably zapped the sensitive electronics. It is however worth checking all the fuses are OK
I hope I have been of help but please do not hesitate to ask if you have any further questions.

"zapped" tv (dee7189)

I would need more details on this problem. Does the tv turn on? If so, what do you see on the screen? If you mean by "zapped" that the tv received a lightning strike and does not turn on, it's possible there are several damaged circuit board components. Depending on the severity of the strike, it's possible that just the fuse is blown. I need more details to advise further.

Rick.
