When I try to make a copy, the screen says scanner failure - turn power off then on again. I do that and it still won't copy. I unplugged the printer and plug it back in and it lets me make one copy. Thank you for your help. Other than this, I have never had a problem and really enjoy my HP printer.

Printer will not scan

he HP All-in-One product displays one of the following error messages on the control panel when scanning or copying:
  • Scanner failure, power off and on
  • Scanner System Failure
  • Scanner failed, cannot make copies or fax
  • Scanner failure. Unable to scan, copy, or send a fax
  • Scanner failure, cycle power
Additionally, the scanner bulb might not turn on during scanning.ry the following solutions in the order presented to resolve the issue. When one of the solutions resolves the issue, there is no need to continue troubleshooting.Solution one: Check the scanner lightFollow these steps to check the scanner light by making a color copy of any document.
  1. Load plain white, unused, letter size paper in the paper tray.
  2. Lift the scanner lid, place the original face down on the scanner glass, and then lower the scanner lid.

My HP Photosmart C5240 will print from computer but will not scan or make copies.

Is there any error message displayed on the control panel of the printer just like one of the following:
Scanner failure, power off and on
Scanner System Failure
Scanner failed, cannot make copies or fax
Scanner failure. Unable to scan, copy, or send a fax
Scanner failure, cycle power

You may want to try following these steps:
1. Check if the scanner light does turn on when you initiated the scanning process, if not you need to reset the product.
2. Try using your other electrical outlet because your AVR or Surge Extension may not be providing enough voltage for the printer.
3. Try using dirty cycle, meaning you need to directly cut the power of your printer by pulling of the power cord from the rear side of your printer and wait for about 30 seconds before inserting again and turn it on.

If all these steps do not improve your printer functionality, you may want to call the HP online help and ask for replacement.

Scanner failure

Solution one: Check the scanner light Make a color copy of any document by pressing the Start Copy Color button on the product control panel. While the product is making the copy, lift the scanner lid slightly to see if the scanner light is visible.
  • If the scanner mechanism moves across the scan bed, but the light is not lit, proceed to Solution six: Service the product .
  • If the light is lit, proceed to the next solution.
Solution two: Check operating conditions Extreme temperatures can affect the operation of the product. Make sure the operating conditions match those recommended in the User Guide provided with the product. Solution three: Check the power connections
  1. Make sure that the part number on the power supply matches the part number listed in the User Guide .
  2. Disconnect the power cord from any power strips or surge suppressors, and then plug it directly into a wall outlet.
  3. Try making a color copy by pressing the Start Copy Color button on the product control panel.
    • If the copy job is successful, you do not need to continue troubleshooting.
  4. If the error message displays again, temporarily move the product to a different room, or plug the power cord into a different wall outlet.

Scanner failure

1. Check scanner light by trying to make a copy.
Caution: do not look directly in the light
3. Perform a power cycly
* Unplug the power cord from the product while its still on
* Plug the power cord back again after 30 seconds
4. Perform a semi-full reset
* Unplug the power cord from the product while its still on
* Press and hold # and 6 while plugging the power cord
* Do not release the button unless the printer would say reset

HP officeJet K series scanner failure power off and on again

Hi.

The "Scanner System Failure" error occurs if the scanner bulb is not heating to the correct temperature or there is some other issue with the scanner hardware

Please follow the below given instructions to resolve the issue.

Please remove the All-in-One Printer from the Power Surge Protector and plug it directly into a wall Power outlet, as the surge protector may not provide enough power to printer.

Please perform the step given below to power cycle the unit after removing the print cartridges from the printer:

1. Verify that the unit is switched on. Unplug the all-in-one from power and disconnect the USB cable from the computer.
2. Wait 30 seconds.
3. Plug in the power only
4. Repeat steps 2-3 two more times.
5. On the third time after plugging the unit into power, reconnect the USB cable from the all-in-one to your computer.

Reset the All-in-One to the factory default settings by using these instructions:

1. Unplug the power cable from printer when the printer is powered on and wait for 20 seconds.

2. Then, press and hold # and 6 while plugging in the power cord.

Continue holding until it displays Semi Full Reset message in the front panel of the All-in-One.

Note:
A semi-full reset will do the following:
The user settings to the factory defaults, Language and country settings on some models, Fax logs, Fax headers, Fax speed dial information.

Scanner Failure Message keeps popping up

Here it is all over, with all the steps.

1.Unplug power cable from printer.

2.Hold Cancel and Enter. OR you could Hold Cancel and Black Copy Button. Whichever is easier

3.Then plug back in the power cable, while still holding those 2 buttons.

4.It should turn on, lights blink, then it should say FULL RESET on the little screen thingy .

5.Let go of the buttons, and hopefully, it fixed your problem.
