Question about Singer 7442 Mechanical Sewing Machine

Singer 7442 is Loud!

My new Singer 7442 is pretty loud. Even my sewing teacher thinks so. Is that normal?

I have the same 'loud' machine. Also, posted a problem about my thread breaking when I pull the fabric out after sewing. Someone must think I'm an idiot, because I know to have needle in the 'up' position! It's in the tension, I'm sure of it. I guess I'll just take it to a repair shop. LGN

Check to see that lint or oil has not collected on the hook or needle bar. Always use a good quality sewing machine oil. A damaged needle can also be the cause of a noisy machine - insert a new needle.

What is the price for singer 7442

I have seen it listed RRP $US199 but for $139 on Amazon. However, buying from bricks and mortar store gives you someone to go back to after purchase if you need help with your machine, something I have found I needed in the past.

customer reviews for this machine here http://www.consumersearch.com/sewing-machines/singer-7442?ap=0&clear=search if you are considering buying it.

Where exactly do I place the oil for singer model 7442

The 7442 is permanently lubricated, and has a self lubricating design, you shouldn't have to oil it yourself at any time.

Are you having another problem that perhaps makes you think it's a lubrication issue?

I have a Singer 9410 sewing mach. w/ tension & peddle problems

Be sure you are using a Class 66 bobbin for this Singer machine. Using another style bobbin can cause tension problems and thread looping/bunching.

Singer 7442 will not sew

Had the same problem as mommyb2 - it was the bobbin spindel was in the wrong position. Push bobbin spindel to the left and it works for sewing.
Have the same problem winding my first bobbin - pushed spindel to the right to engage bobbin fuction and the machine locks up and wont wind the bobbin. Irig did you bring it in for repair? I'm thinking its broke - which **** as mine is a brand new machine

No Manual with my Singer

Sears sells the Singer 7442, which is pretty much the same...
They have a link to the owner manual

Try that, at least it's free.

Are you making sure that the needle is in the up position when you pull on the thread.
If not you will break the thread for sure.

Good luck
