Optiplex 520 pci video cards Dual monitors & Vista

I have Dell Optiplex 520 machines that are set-up with dual monitors. We are moving to Vista and the test case revealed that Vista will not support PCI video cards and the 520s only use pci cards. I guess unless someone has a fix I will either sell nice 22 inch monitors or buy new machines. Gotta love Windows

There is a work-around for Vista. Look here.

A little bit down you can read:
"A user could force the installation of a XPDM driver for each of these devices, and therefore get heterogeneous multi-adapter multi-monitor to work as in Windows XP."

If you can go that way depends mainly on the manufacturer of the video card driver.

If you are going to sell all your nice 22" monitors - let me know...;-)

If you have any more questions, just come back here and leave a comment - I'm happy to help.

If you want to use Vista, use the business or ultimate. I believe PCI is supported, but before you do that. check on dell website if the optiplex 520 is compatible to vista.

I have a Dell Inspiron 530 w/ an 0ry007 motherboard. I would like to use 2 monitors. Will it support dual monitors through the one port if I use a Dual DVI adapter?

This system uses a PCI-E slot for its video (graphics) card. This is the perfect platform to accept a high end card that has dual DVI outputs, which allows multiple displays. You should change out the card that came with the machine, most PCI-e cards these days have the dual outputs and cost less than a hundred bucks. The dual output is a better way to go instead of an adapter.

I have a Dell Optiplex GX 520 that recently had an NVIDIA GE Force 6200 video card added to it, in order to run dual display. The machine now takes 4-5 minutes to boot and is "challenged" when it finally...

I use the same card in one of my machines with no issues at all. It is used to drive a 50" sony lcd.

All I can suggest based on my experience of this card is to remove the drivers and install the latest ones

I have always Nvidia cards to work better at dual display especially in DUALVIEW where you can set individual resolutions so easily.

Check that it is not somthing else holding down your boot times.

Will a dell dimension 2100 support dual monitors

Yes it will but that will also depend on your graphics card to a degree.
To do it properly you need to install a new graphics card and disable the on-board graphics card from the bios.

Your new card should support std VGA as well as DVI

DVI is also capable of being hooked up to many large screen tvs

No display on Windows Vista need driver?

Make sure that the settings in the new video card are actually set to run both monitors.I see this happen in my comp. repair shop quite often. It is a common mistake.

Using dual monitors on a Dell Optiplex GX260

You cant.. Unless the nvidia card you added has two video OUTs. Plugging in a aftermarket card causes the motherboard to disable the onboard video..
If your nvidia card has two "outs" then you can use two monitors... most newer nvidia cards support this. sometimes it requires an adaptor, but usually it was included in the box

Here is a little guide for setting up dual monitors with fedora core 6: http://blog.taragana.com/index.php/archive/how-to-setup-dual-monitors-on-linux-fedora-core/

I haven't had to use duals monitors with Linux yet but if this doesn't work let me know and I'll run some tests as I can easily set this up at work (we use the same computers and similar cards).
