GE UPRIGHT FREEZER NOT FREEZING.

Hello Mary;

My name is Peter. I am a retired field service refrigeration technician.

You are locked in the defrost mode. About every 8-10 hours your freezer will go into a defrost mode for 20-30 minutes. This is where all of the components will shut down except for the light.

You have water on the floor because your condenser fan and compressor is shut down.

You did not provide a model number. Your model number is on the inside wall of your freezer near the top. So, I can only guess.

Lets take your freezer out of the defrost mode. In the lower back on the left hand side is your defrost timer (This may also be in the lower front depending on the model). Following is a picture of what a defrost timer looks like.

23573129-rcp3vehoqdbldikr0vsfofzb-3-0.jpg

The time is mounted on the back of a plate and held on with two screws. The plate has a hole through it to give you access to the round knob on the left. The knob has a slot in it. With a flat head screw driver turn the knob clockwise. You will hear a click. Turn one click at a time until the freezer turns on.

The timer cost about $20.00. You can replace it yourself. Unplug the freezer. Unscrew the timer. Remove the connector on the right.

You need to replace the timer or you will have icing problems.

Send me your model number and I will tell you what the part number is.

True 49f goes into defrost mode the contact opens for the compressor but the compressor keeps running

in many cases, these units have relays or contactors where the contact points actually weld together. this causes the unit to stay running even though power to the coil has been stopped. I'd start looking there first. don't over look the possibility that someone could have mistakenly miswired the unit.

Feezer will not stay at zero goes up to 30 I think defrost cyle not working right

Replace defrost timer in refrig cabinet. Located in the light and control area on top of refrig side. Remove cover, there will be a box with wires and a little wheel that is the timer.

Just freezes every six weeks and i defrost it then it works for six more weeks this is a g.e select side by side

this may be a condensation problem that occurs when the freezer coil is in defrost mode. slowly building up moisture until it freezes in the box. then you manually defrost it dealing with the moisture giving it six more weeks to build up again. I would call GE and get there recommendations on the drain systems through their tech support

Need to find the defrost timer

The defrost control is integrated into the main circuit board on the rear of the fridge.
You have to change the complete board.

Not cold enough. ice on back of freezer but not making cubes

sounds like you might have a deforst problem or your drain is blocked not allowing the water to drain when the fridge goes into defrost.
