SOURCE: I have a John Deere
Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly.
Please respond with your model number as there are multiple models and mower decks all with different diagrams.
Things you need to do:
1. With the mower deck raised grab each blade by the tip and try to teeter the blade in the support / mandrel housing. If the blade teeters you need to check the mandrel bearing in the deck support housing.
2. Belt off of the each blade pulley when testing rotate the blade and watch the pulley. It should rotate in a non eliptical rotation. Any signs of eliptical rotation and the blade support housing, shaft and bearing need to be inspected for wear.
3. Grip the idler pulleys and try and rock them on the shaft. If the idler pulley can be wobbled the pulley and mounting bolt should be changed. Make sure that the holes for the idler pulley bolt are not elongated.
4. Make sure ALL of the belt guides are installed with very little clearance between the deck belt guide and pulley. 1/8 inch or less between the metal rod and the pulley with the belt ON. Make adjustments by loosening the mounting bolt and re-positioning the guides.
If you respond with a model number I will point you to parts information on the John Deere website so you can see your deck and pulleys.
