You may want to download the Canon Driver Installer first to help download the print driver. I checked the latest list that Canon is offering, I see the LBP5000 but nothing for the LBP6000. I have used a previous model's driver for other manufactures, I don't see why the 5000 driver wouldn't give you most, but not all the features the 6000 offers. You also may want to see if Canon offers a firmware upgrade which would make it compatible with Windows 8.1
You need the driver from Canon: http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/consumer/products/printers_multifunction/laser_printers/imageclass_lbp6000#DriversAndSoftware . Select your OS and then expand the section labeled Drivers. It's called the Canon Advanced Printing Technology for Canon LBP6000 . Then install the driver on the computer with the printer either off or not connected to the computer. You also a USB A Male to B Male cable. Connect the printer to the computer and turn it on when prompted to do so.
