SOURCE: Broken door gasket how to replace on GE front

You'll need to determine which bellows gasket your washer needs before you undertake the repair. Go to the following link and enter in your washer model number to get the line drawing and parts breakdown.

http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/index.action?pop=flush
Click on the "find a part" and enter in your model number

Typically, the tub gasket (door seal) is part number #WH08X10022 with a new substitution part #WH08X10036. However, since each model can be slightly different, depending on the serial number which denotes when it was manufactured, you might want to confirm that the above gasket is the correct one for your particular washer.

You can also call the folks at Sears Parts Direct at 1-800-252-1698 and give them your complete model number AND serial number before you start in on the repair, so you can be sure you have the correct substitution bellows gasket.

It's a relatively easy repair, all you need to do is remove the spring retaining wire around the outer edge of the bellows gasket, just peel it back at the edge to see it. Now locate the locking loop by going around the rim. Once you find the locking loop, you can remove it using a couple pairs of small needle nose pliers as they make it easier to get off.

Once you've done that, you'll see the locking plate that holds the back side of the bellows gasket onto the outer washer tub. Remove those fasteners and you can get the bellows off and start in on putting the new bellows onto the washer, just reversing the order you used in the removal process.

Just take your time removing the old gasket so you remember what you're doing and when installing the new gasket so as not to rip or tear it in the process. I'd also suggest you let the gasket relax for a good 4-5 hours (to get the kinks and folds out of it from the packing box) before you do the installation.

Here's another link to one of my other solutions for installing a bellows gasket on a GE front loading washer that you can also review for more installation tips, etc.

SOURCE: can front loader washer door on ewf1083 be

Hi from retired Englishman in SW France,

Unlikely. The door's internal shape would have to be the same upside-down, of course ;-0(
Also it would have to have appropriate cut-outs, possible covered, and bolt holes on the opposite side. I would expect the handbook/manual to inform you as well as the sales person ;-0)

So- highly unlikely, sorry.

SOURCE: ge front loading washer door won't unlock

I had the same problem. I didn't want to spend the money or go to the trouble of replacing the whole latch assembly with the GE latch repair kit.
I found that the plastic latch piece screwed to the door had broken and one of the two latch "fingers" was stuck in one of the latch openings on the washer. I fixed the problem by removing the broken part from the washer and drilling and countersinking very small holes (1/16" I think) in the plastic latch piece on either side of the "latch finger". I then put the broken off piece back in place and drillled pilot holes for #4 sheet metal screws in the door where the latch is located. The door liner is plastic and I think I used a 1/32 inch drill bit. I reattached the broken latch piece with two 1/2 inch stainles steel #4 flat head phillips screws from Home Depot. The screws hold the broken latch piece in place as orinilally positioned.
The repair is working fine and the door now latches like it did before the latch part broke

No problem w/5+-yr Neptune washer/dryer pair, they have served us well. But - washer currently hinged on the left/latch on right, dryer hinged on right/latch on left. Of course, the washer hook-up is...

Hi from retired Englishman in SW France,
If the doors were interchangeable I would expect that to be a selling point (!) and mentioned in the manuals ;-0)
The problem is that the holes for the hinges, the door catches, the electronics/electrics for the door solenoid and close sensors need to be available already on the other side. On top of those requirements the doors need to be the same internal shape upside down, as they would be upside down if swapped over to the other side.
So sorry, all in all it doesn't look good, does it ;-0(

Purchased a damaged GE dryer. Model and Serial number removed.

Model tag is inside door frame or at the bottom corner on the side. It may have been removed or not replaced if the front panel was replaced, Eric

Wash machine won't empty the water.

There is a filter behind the bottom front panel of washer. Remove bottom three screws and remove panel. Get something to catch water. Unscrew filter. Clean out filter drain. Should be good.
