Scanner 5 Error Printer in shop but unable to get new parts

My printer and HP2840 Color Laser Jet has been in a shop since February 2009. I've been told by HP and this shop that only a new Scanner Assembly will solve the problem. But now we can't get a Scanner Assembly. I had just loaded this printer with over $500. worth of toner and I want my printer back. It is ludicrous that I can't get the part to fix this printer. If I can't get a part and my printer back I will never buy another HP product as long as I live. I'm pretty disgusted by this.

You are right you do need a scanner assy as they do go bad. I am sure they are available however, as the 2840 is a popular model. Try Google, partsnow.com and other parts stores. Finding a tech to do the repair will be your next challenge, but it is not a tough job.

The solutions for this are posted elsewhere on this site, look for "Scanner Error 5". Basically, it's one of several things that can be cleaned or adjusted without having to replace the entire scanner head. If it does need parts they should return the printer to you until the parts are available. This error does not prevent you from printing. Even though the printer shows the error message and tells you to cycle the power, you don't need to. It will still print with this error. Find a repair shop with someone who knows what they are doing, or get a #10 Torx screw driver and fix it yourself.

Read the other thread. Could be dirty mirrors, dirty or crooked film sensor strip, or bad light bulb, all of which can be easily repaired.

Any of these error codes (51.20 51.21 51.22 51.23) points to a failure with one of the laser scanner assemblies on the HP Color LaserJet 4610 an 4650 series. To solve these error codes, replace the corresponding laser scanner. Sometimes when the laser scanner fails you will also hear loud noises (often higher-pitched noises like screeching sounds); the noises can be another sign that the laser scanner needs replacing.

How to solve the hp laser jet 52 scanner error
there are three usual faults that cause this
1. the scanner is unable to locate home position- remove the scan glass/ clean and lubricate all rails
2. the ribbon cable has open circuit on tracks- replace the ribbon cable connecting the scanner to printer
3. the printer main PCA has failed and cannot control the scanner- replace main PCA

52 Scanner Error
The all-in-one has experienced an internal hardware error.

1. Turn off the power by using the power switch, and then wait at least 30 seconds.
2. If a surge protector is being used, remove it. Plug the all-in-one directly into the wall socket.
3. Check the FFC connection between the formatter and the scanner.
NOTE Do not bend or fold the FFCs during the removal or reinstallation process.
4. Try connecting the product to a different power source or surge protector.
5. Turn on the power and wait for the all-in one to initialize.
6. If the error persists, replace the laser scanner assembly.

The 51.xx error occurs when there is an error in connection with the laser, if you open the printer to clean the lens, surely you have forgotten to replace the cable connection purple laser. open it again and reconnect all cables OR: 51.X PRINTER ERROR A loss of beam-detect occurred. X description: 1 = Beam-detect error 2 = Laser error 1. Press GO. The page containing the error will automatically be reprinted. 2. Turn the printer off and then on. 3. HP Color laser jet 4700n 49.3048 service error
The problem is usually caused by printing a PDF file with fonts/page size/ page formating errors which will cause the printer to display the 49.3048 error. The only way to use the printer is to POR or recycle the power and delete the print job from the server or spooling device and cancel it on the printer before the offending command is issued to the printer again. You can try updating the firmware to the latest version 46.140.5 from the HP website. MIke L.
