Laptop hp pavilion n5350 pentium 111---all of a sudden the operation system not found note comes up..I cannot get into anything else no matter what I do. If I do contrl/alt delete and hit escape it takes me to a boot up sequences..non that works..then it takes me to a setup which asks for a pass word...
I had to use the recovery console on the xp disk to run "fixmbr" to fix my corrupted master boot record. the mbr is the file that tells the computer where the rest of the instructions are. without the mbr, it doesn't know where to go for the next instruction, which would be from your operating system.
there is another option which fixes faulty bootup instructions.

Re: operation system not found
Ok so u need a passowrd to accsess the bios, not good if u dont have the password , just a quick note you dont have a floppy or cd inserted ? that can cause this problem , the laptop may have been bumbed alittle to hard and damaged the hard drive , can also be caused from not shutting the laptop down properly , you may need to reinstall xp , you can also try removing the hard drive and putting it back in nice and secure , the hard drive slot will be located at the bottom of the laptop or on the side,

1) Was the laptop working normally before (starting up, running etc.?)
2) What OS do you have installed?
3) Did you install anything (hardware or software) just before the problem started?
4) Was the power suddenly shut down while the computer was reading or writing to the HD?
5) Was the HD disconnected while the computer was on or running?
You need to contact HP for that board.

Did you buy the computer new? It should have come with recovery disks, also called operations disks. I have had to do this with my hp pavilion lap top a few time over the past few years so that it would run faster. If the recovery disks aren't in there, call the company. They are always supposed to be included. I've always had good luck with hp, you might even go to hp's website. It's really good as well.
