I can't get the insignia portable cd player to work with an ac adapter on my stereo system; nothing registers. If I use batteries it plays through the stereo fine, but as soon as I try the adapter.

If it works fine with only the battery, then the lcd should be fine. Your power adapter might be bad.

after losing the adapter to my portable dvd player i went to the localwalmart and in the electronics section they had all kinds of ac adapters. a generic one with the same volt rating as your old one should do the trick.
