From page 145 of the A520 user manual, it appears that the largest SD memory card that this camera is able to use is a 512MB SD memory card. The manual is dated "2004", so this size limitation is not unusual for a camera of this era.
If you've purchased anything larger, there is a good chance that it won't work with this model camera.
You have to delete the pictures in the memory using the camera's function to do this. If you have a memory card in the camera, you might not be able to see the pics in the internal memory, so take it out first, then review the pics in the camera and delete as many as you can (not the ones you want to keep, obviously). When you put the memory card back in, the camera should save pics to that instead of internal memory, but if the internal memory is completely full, it can't work properly. It needs some elbow room.
You must first get rid of the pics from the internal memory. With no card in the camera, go into the menu and find "format"...follow the on-screen instructions to erase the internal memory.
you may need to take it in to the camera place to get the internal batery for the clock replaced also you may need to up load the driver program for the camera
The internal memory is small. Your camera will continue to write to it until you erase the pics from it. Here's how...Remove the memory card. Download any pics you want to save from the internal memory. Go into the menu and find "format"...follow the on-screen instructions to erase the internal memory. Insert your card. It should work properly now. Promise yourself to never use the internal memory again.
I would give this software a try: http://www.download.com/VirtualLab-Data-Recovery/3000-2248_4-10610841.html?cdlPid=10801131 and be more vigilant about backing up your pictures. Flash memory can corrupt at any time. Good Luck.
