I have a frigidaire 3 1/2 ton heat pump and air conditioning unit. Its 6 years old and has gone through 7 fan motors. It is still under warranty and the company that installed it keeps replacing them. Each motor gets very loud on start up about a month before it stops starting. The 7th motor has just started making the same noise. The AC company replaced blades, checked exhange and electric. The last motor only lasted 2 months. I am desperate for advice to help get my AC company the knowledge to fix this!
The problem is the fan mounting screws are comming loose and causes the fan blades to be knoed out of balance, it is a poor design and the fans are made of aluminum so get them to replace the fan and add plumers tape tothe motor on the bottom and runt the metel tape up to the frame so that the motor does not wiggle and knock the blades again. I won't mention the name of the company but it has been a problem for them for a few years. Alll they would have to do is add a metel bracket to hold the motor solid and put rubber mounts on them.
Hopefully they have replaced the start and run capacitors for these motors and they are rated properly by voltage and microfarad specs. These capacitors properly start the motors during each run cycle and are a vital component to the motors well being and operation. Replace capacitors
