Some are made for the Japanese market only and only come in Japanese. Some have built in languages, some need a Firmware update to load English. One trick it to put the Google Translate App onto a Smartphone and use the camera feature to read what you see onscreen.

reset to factory settings it will ask for language or it shows the flags. I reset mine to factory setting and it swithed to some foreign language. inally found the same reset button in the preference files and pushed it then it asked for language. It worked. Now if I only could get the audio out line to work. Ya I know about the speaker preferences .

if you know to read Japanese then you will have to go the menu and change the language.
but if there is no option to select different language then you cannot change the menu setting by using a firmware patch.

You didn't say what manufacturer your device is, but usually if you co to their web site youcan down load the language. I had the same problem on a iQue3600 and just did a hot sync with the language I wanted. Worked fine.

After trying on my own, I went back into setting by scrolling along until a picto gram - with what appears to be a machine bolt is highlighted and then pressed SET - next the screen shows a bunch of chinese words (these are the different languages) then I scrolled down to the last one - until its highlighted, - this is the english one - press the set button on the side of the frame, this will bring you back to the english menu.
