I have a tom tom via 280 car Gps which has been dropping the satellite connection at various time during a trip. Consequently mapping is interrupted and is no longer reliable. Any suggestions???

you go to tomtom.com and make sure you have website open before you connect your tomtom to the computer.

there may be some code lost in your module so you have to contact the service center to solve this problem......

It needs to be in the same place as the map you have, but in a new directory ; e.g. "GB" as well as Southampton.

Easy way out to to load it using TomTom Home...

SOURCE: Can't acquire satellite via my navigation unit.

I have discovered that my car windscreen has some sort of built-in interference that has been solved by fitting an external antenna - Garmin is now working perfectly!

SOURCE: problem with gps not connecting.

Help !!!! I have a MYGuide 3218 currently using OS window CE 5.0 and presently using IGO8 for navigation...but try to using others software compatible for window CE such as Garmin XT and TomTom but still facing problem indicate cannot find satellite / no GPS device...anyone have any idea how to solve this problem

You will probably find that your internal BATTERY is now well past "its useful lifetime" [around 2 -3 years plus]. The same thing [and symptoms] happened with my 10 year old TOMTOM OneXL.
I was quoted $80.00 [by TT here in Australia] to possibly fix it + the cost of the battery ???
SO I purchased a new TT Via 280 with LIFE-TIME FREE MAPS for just over AU $240.00 ... Works GREAT and better maps as well !!!

Old Tom Tom can't find signal
Replace the battery!. Maximum life is two years. If you have not fully charged it by usb or ac prior to a trip and then connected it to the 12v car outlet before starting the engine the battery becomes damaged overtime.
Battery level determines the time it takes to make a connection. Always keep it charged. Never plug it into 12v car power when starting engine. This will not only shorten the life of the battery, but wiull damage the SIIRF chip.

Tom Tom only has Guam map since update
That is really strange!
I can only suggest that you verify what MAPs are physically on your TomTom device by connecting it to a PC/LAPTOP and use Windows Explorer to look at your GPS drive folders: should see a folder for each 'country' (like GUAM).
The normal way to check which maps are registred and loaded on your device is to use TomTom Home -> Update maps function: it will show you the status or whereabout of any Maps that you have loaded or backup and which one can be purchased.
Hope it helps: let me know how you go.
ps.i f you wisely backup your device on a regular basis (via TomTom Home or direct copy to your PC/LAPTOP), you could always RESTORE FROM BACKUP and start again.

My tom tom one gps has trouble starting up, gives inaccurate directions and has trouble getting a signal. It is almost 1 year old. any ideas?
- To assist with GPS not finding satellites, go to the official TomTom support site and download and install QUICKGPS to your TomTom One.
- Update your Map and QuickGPS files on a regular basis via Tom Tom Home.

It has helped me and hope it will minimise your issues: please let me know how you go.

I need help on changing to the us My tom tom is on a different country
You will need to Purchase and load required US MAP(s) via 'TOM TOM HOME'.
When the new MAPs are registred to your device, you can then use the 'Change preference' -> manage Maps -> Switch Map -> then select the appropriate 'registred' US MAP.

Please note: always backup your GPS via 'Tom Tom Home' backup utilities first!
If you have limited storage, you may need to delete your existing map(s), that were previously back-up, before loading the US Maps

I needs help about down'oading the software on my tomtom.i don't have a signal on the tomtom.
You need to connect the Tom Tom to the computer with a USB cable. If it is connected properly then it will ask Conect to the computer Yes / No. If you say Yes you can then use Tom Tom Home (supplied on the CD which came with the SatNav) to manage software / map downloads.

You don't need a satellite signal to download software / maps.
