* Get to the receiver setup menu by pressing the "On Screen" button on the receiver's remote control.
* Navigate the menu to "Setup".
* Then scroll horizontally to "Multi Zone".
* Select "Zone2 Set".
** If the menu items are grayed out here (if not skip below) **
* Go back to the horizontal menu (where you selected "Multi Zone"
* Scroll to the "Speakers" option
* Make sure the "Power Amp Assign" setting is correct (allowing for multi-zone).

* Change the range, default volume, and increments as desired.
I hope this helps!
I would guess you are hooking up the DVD player digially ie with digital coax or optical. The 307 doesn't have a D/A converter for zone 2. To fix this, simply run a set of analog audio outputs from your dvd player to whatever input makes you happy and set that to zone 2.
Turn off zone 2 then turn your receiver on the main zone on Radio, tune in a station and check for audio. Post a comment and let me know if audio works that way. If you don't have any audio, list your other equipment makes and models as well as how they are interconnected to your receiver (cable type) and I will help you troubleshoot
also, you might have to search through the menu of the receiver, and set the surround back speakers to be zone 2 instead of using the 7.1 configuration that is probably default.
i think zone 2 will only play sources that are hooked up with analog connects, ie. red/white cables. try using the radio to see if it works. you might have to hook up your cable/sat box, cd player, dvd player, whatever you have that you want to listen to with both digital and analog cables to get everything to work right.
zone 2 will only work with analog sources so if your dvd, cable and other devices are connected via HDMI, that alone won't work. What you need to do is hook up RCA (red and white) cables from the dvd player to dvd in of the receiver and same thing for your satellite box (and other sources.) no need to change any setting on the receiver. This way, the HDMI will take care of your main room speakers and the RCA will feed your zone 2 speakers.
The reason for the error message is because your DVD player is set to one specific zone.
The below procesure will open the DVD player to play all zones.
TURN ON THE PLAYER PRESS OPEN/CLOSE USING REMOTE PRESS STOP-7-3-4-4-6-6 YOUR REGION AREA WILL APPEAR.
PRESS "0" TO UNLOCK (OPEN the DVD player to ALL zones) ALL, THEN WAIT.
INSERT YOUR DISC.
Hope this helps. Let me know the status.
