My Alpine CHM-S620 worked just fine and then it suddenly stoped recognizing and picking up disks from the magazine. It cycles through each slot in the magazine looking for the disk but it doesn't seem to be able to recognize that there is a disk there. I've tried cleaning the disks and changing out the disks in the magazine with no success. Any suggestions?
If the unit is more than a couple of years old the lens on the laser should be cleaned if this doesn't make any difference you will need to replace the laser, if you remove the cover from the unit and observe whether the cd spins when it loads this will tell you that the unit is attempting to read the disc and usually cleaning will solve the problem, be careful when handling the laser as static from you can damage it

have you tried a different magazine. Could this one be warped?

The Alpine CHA- and CHM- changers all use the same magazine. You can search eBay or google shopping for "Alpine CHM Magazine" and you should see a variety of sellers, with prices from 25ish for used ones up to 40ish for new ones.

I may be mistaken but the two previous requests seem to be refering to a fault presenting before the disc actually leaves the cartridge. I have that particular problem with my custom unit, fitted to the Rover75. The woteva thing moves up and down, but the woteva thing on that does not hook out the disc. So everything functions, until the disc must be removed from the cartridge.
This i established after removing the outer cover, but can't figure out how it should hook out the disc. I then took it in for repairs, paid a fair price for it
and was told that it was out of alignement. Three days later, the very same problem again. this time it just stopped working. The first time, it gradually increased in its refusal to work for a day or two, then working again, and so it went on till nothingness.
Please help

I think what the previous guys are saying is that the disc does not leave the cartridge. This is the problem i have. Four months ago it gradually increased its "refusal to work" periods for a day or two, then worked again, and so it went on untill nothingness. I removed the cover and found that the
little "elevator" type gadget moved up and down, stopping at all six floors, but the lever does not hook out the disc from the cartridge. So the disc is not there to see or read.
I took the unit in for repairs and was told that it was out of line. I say bs, because three days later, the same thing again. It probably started up as normal and worked fine so i got charged for the repair job. It is pointless taking anything in for repairs nowadays........so please help.
I have the exact same problem w/ my OEM Alpine Jaguar unit (LNF4160AA) 6 changer. The "elevator" works fine, the "hook" refuses to grab and insert the disc. I've disconnected the powersource and waited several minutes (numerous times) with no success.
This is not the first OEM Alpine that's died on me (Quality???) I've read that Alpine does not support OEM CD changer repair parts - they only support strictly "Alpine" branded products.

CHm S620 unit worked perfectly, had to remove cd from car due to car repairs re-installed cd player now will check each disk holder and state 'no disk'
Disc #5 is in CD player but, the plastic holder is stuck. It wont change when I call up a different disc. It wont play that cd either. I took the unit out but I can just plug it back in if needed in troubleshooting. SK
I have the same problem-- has anyone found a solution yet. I went into a repair shop they suggetsed to buy another unit £125 for the CHM S630. Does anyone know whether this revised model or a newer model CHA S634 will fit exactly like the CHM S620? ANY HELP / ADVICE WOULD BE APPRECIATED!
