Just got a blank screen when turning on with a line flashing on the left

That means your system is trying to boot from some othter source. Make sure there no CD in CD/DVD Drive.If its there remove it and remove the usb flash drive and other usb devices and restart your pc. it will boot normally. If its not booting again, go to bios by pressing f12 or f10 or f2 and select harddisk as 1st boot device and save it and exit. now you can restart your pc and it will work

Bios password forgotten-->erased files??

your files will be safe. A BIOS password will not affect files on a hard drive, it just affects your ability to enter the BIOS screen on your laptop.

Hard disk for medion MD96640 stated as 320GB but laptop gives size C: total 268GB and Recover D: as 29.2GB, this only totals to 297.2GB

This is normal as the Harddisk will never give You the full space  mentioned
It reserves  some space for the formatting information.
some times  If ur disk is formatted in NTFS it takes  up more space than FAT formatting.

So this is normal .

Even on My comp i have something like 150Gb  when it states 160GB so i guess urs is normal.

hope this will solve your curiosity
