  • Remove all batteries
  • Install batteries in outdoor unit
  • Make your way indoors at a leisurely pace. This allows the outdoor unit to initialize and begin sending data
  • Install batteries in indoor unit. You should see outdoor temperature displayed
In cold weather, the outdoor temperature display may disappear due to frozen batteries. At the moment my reading is - - because it is around 40 deg. F. However, in a day or two when the outdoor temperature reaches 50 deg., the outdoor temperature will be displayed again. All in all, rather whimsical.

Why isn't outdoor temperature displayed?

Try repeating the initial set up procedure. Remove all batteries from outdoor and indoor units. Install known-good batteries in the outdoor unit. Allow time for the outdoor unit to begin transmitting data. Install known-good batteries in the indoor unit. You should see the outdoor temperature displayed.

Can't get a temperature reading on my Springfield 91756 thermometer even after changing batteries. Just get - - -.

The batteries in the outdoor unit have to be changed first and time allowed for it to begin transmitting. If you are in a very cold location, the batteries may may decline in efficiency to a point where the outdoor unit can't transmit. In this case, you may find that the temperature reading returns in warmer weather.

According to instructions for similar systems, you have to replace batteries in the outdoor unit first, then the indoor unit and wait 10 minutes without pressing any buttons for the indoor unit to begin displaying the outdoor temperature.

My oregon scientific indoor outdoor weather station with atomic clock just stopped picking up the outdoor readings, it won't switch to that channel any longer. tried removing and reinstalling the battery,...

I had the same problem, Since the outside temp wouldn't read, I figured it was the outside unit batteries. Went through half a dozen AAA batteries and wouldn't read. It was the indoor unit. Had the same bats I installed 3 years ago. DUH! Replaced the AAA, and all was well. When the inside batteries die out, it has just enough juice to read indoor temp, but not enought to sense exterior signal.

I changed batteriers and now I can't get a reading from the remote. I have hit the reset on both units. Maybe not in the righ order.

I believe they ask you to press the reset button on the main unit first, but that may not be your problem. Double check the batteries to make sure they are installed correctly. If one of the batteries in the outdoor sending unit is in backwards, it will not send the outdoor data. On the indoor unit, there is typically one battery that is used for receiving the signal from the outdoor unit. If all of the batteries are in correctly but that one, you will see the display and the indoor temperature information, but the outdoor information will not be displayed. Also, make sure the units are close enough to transmit.
