Many models have a thermal reset to turn off the vacuum if it gets hot. Better vacuums have a mechanical reset switch that you push to reset. Most vacuums have an automatic thermal cutoff built into the motor, if it gets too hot it shuts off the power and will reset itself when it cools back down. If it shut off due to getting too hot it indicates a clog somewhere or the filters are clogged or the bag is full.

How do i fix dyson DC41 Animal vacuum upright cleaner it has burning smell coming from motor and it blew the fuse box when i WENT TO VACUUM. the wire flex is a bit over twisted

You most certainly shorted this out and will need a new cord. Easy fix but you will have to take it apart and find where it failed. I doubt the motor fried but it is possible. When you take it apart look for the burn mark left by the electrical arc. That is the point you fix.

Kirby Vacuum Cleaner on/off switch won't stay switched on

If the motor turns on turns off in the course of the vacuuming, check the cord or the switch This is how you replace your cord on a Sentria vaxuum.

My Miele S3141 canister began acting strange this morning. No suction...so I took off the hose and checked for blockage, (nothing). Now I can't get the hose back on the canister. It just slips ar

see this causes and fix it. God bless you
Air filter:
If the vacuum cleaner won't pick up dirt and has no suction the air filter might be clogged. Remove the filter and either clean or replace it as needed.
Exhaust Filter If the vacuum cleaner won't pick up and has no suction the exhaust filter might be clogged. Remove and clean the filter, replace it if its torn or damaged.

Vacuum Hose If the vacuum cleaner won't pick up and has no suction the vacuum hose might be clogged. Remove the hose from the vacuum cleaner, stretch it out straight, shine a bright flashlight in one end and try to see light through it. If no light can be seen, use something to run through the hose and free up the obstruction.
Vacuum Bag If the vacuum cleaner won't pick up and has no suction the vacuum bag might be full. Clean or replace the bag as recommended by the manufacturer.

Dust Cup AssemblyIf the vacuum cleaner won't pick up and has no suction the dust cup assembly might not be installed tightly, or it might be cracked or broken. The dust cup must seal tightly in order to produce the right amount of suction. If it is cracked or broken, replace it. Most glues and adhesives will not successfully seal the crack.
Blower Wheel If the vacuum cleaner won't pick up and there is no suction, the blower wheel might be jammed or broken. Check the blower wheel to be certain it turns freely. If it doesn't, check to see if there is anything rubbing against it. If not, but it's hard to turn, the motor is most likely the problem.

My vacuum was working fine just a minute ago, and i turned it off to finish laundry, and now when i go to use it again, the handle won't recline... is there something stuck??

Hi there,

Sorry to hear you're having problems with your DC17. The cleaner should recline easily into the vacuuming position when you place one foot on the cleaner head, and tilt the handle back. If it's not doing this, please get in touch with us free on 1866MYDYSON, or email [email protected]. One of our experts will be happy to provide further assistance.

Drive went out on my Hoover Steam Vac Shampooer and brushes won't turn plus there's a burning smell coming from it. Only used it 6 times - bought it in March - 2008.

Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. It sounds to me like you have multiple problems with your power drive; a burning smell and the brushes don’t turn, and the dop is on March, 2008 – the Hoover Steam Vac Shampooer has a one year factory warranty and it could be a broken part for the brushes won’t turn or a belt would cause the burning smell. If it is not the belt or broken part it probably is the motor of which you should take it to a authorized Hoover vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or to contact the Hoover factory cust serv listed below or the Hoover website for information. If it is the motor the factory authorized dealer will replace the part for the motor and the broken part for the brushes, if it is the belt that would be an out of pocket expense. So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.
