Hi, thats could be a dvd disc type your using is not complied with the disc type format your dvd can play ; or the laser needs to be clean off dust on the lens.. if not theres nothing to do except replaces the laser assembly /but firts makes sure you put a clean
dvd in the player..all these fact as to be considered.

You tried cleaning the lens right? That's the first thing I would do. You may have to actually open up the unit and use some windex on a cotton swap to clean the lens. Be very careful not to overwet the cotton swab. Use the other end of the swab to dry the lens.
The red wavelength of light from the laser might not be getting through the lens properly, which is used for the Audio CDs, where the higher frequency laser is used for the DVD material.
