How to FAX with MX472 - Canon PIXMA MX472 Wireless All-in-One Inkjet Printer

Canon support will have the drivers that are available for the Pixma MX472 here: https://www.usa.canon.com/internet/portal/us/home/support/details/printers/inkjet-multifunction/mx-series-inkjet/mx472/pixma-mx472?cm_sp=CSO-_-PFListing-_-MX472 . You will probably want the full software and driver package to ensure that you can use all of the features of the all-in-one. This package will include all of the Canon software. It doesn't have any third-party software that may have come on the installation CD.

If you previously connected the MX472 to your computer and Microsoft found some drivers, remove the drivers and disconnect the USB cable before you install the software from the above site. Frequently, the drivers found by Windows Update are only the basic printer drivers.

In the tools and/or setting menu there is a way to turn that off to not print a report when this happens. Could be under Reports, settings or tools.

wonder if the machine requires: 1-nnn-nnn-nnnn (without -) format of the recipient's fax no. (does your phone system require a prefix no. to call number outside of the bldg.?)

Verify that the phone connector on the wall can carry a phone call!
Connect a phone & prove that you can dial out.
Remove phone.
Use a short phone cable to plug in to the Printer then into the phone connector on the wall.
Put the printer in fax mode, then use the printer keyboard to dial a phone number. If that works, your almost there.
Scan a document & send to the phone number.
If that dials out... OK. Then try sending to a phone number with a known Fax machine at the other end. When the two fax machines start communicating through "tones" then the document will be sent as a Fax.

The orignal ink cartridges supplied with these machines are fairly low capacity. You can get XL versions which contain 2-3 times as much ink. If you are using refilled cartridges, you may find the Fax module can not tolerate refills. There is a way to reset the machine to ignore the ink level counter for the printer/copier functions, but the Fax module addresses the cartridges diferently for some reason.
