Question about Sony FD Trinitron WEGA KV-32XBR400 32" TV
I recently obtained this Sony KV-32XBR400 TV from my folks....they had not used the set in years, but it was in perfect working condition before it was put away.
I have since aquired ownership, and from the onset of use, this TV would power off at random times while watching cable television. Sometimes I can get 30 mins, sometimes its 90 mins or more. However, i am able to watch dvd movies for hours on end without the TV shutting down.
I ran the blink codes and its telling me I have codes 5, 6 & 7.
My questions for you:
Is there a quick fix? cheap fix?
Why am I able to watch dvd's without the Tv acting up?
Other alternate solutions??
The picture quality on this tv is amazing and i would really like to keep it around. PLUS it is cheaper than going out and buying new.
Four blinks would normally indicate a yoke winding that was shorting intermittently, 5 blinks something on the "D" board in overvoltage condition and 6 blinks commonly Ic6501 is failing...
To have all of these blink codes happening could be signal derived, thereby not affecting dvd play. Could be smps related or possibly regulation. My first guess would be the "D" board...
Is there a cheap and quick fix, yes and no... This isn't one you'll be able test out or you wouldn't be asking the question. But a shop should be able to determine the problem and repair for less than half the cost of a new Tv in it's comparable class..
Hope this helps!
