Cambridge A5 Amp, only one speaker works when phono selected

I have a Cambridge A5 Amp with added preamp. Recently the left speaker stopped working on phono (it's fine with CD and TV) I've cleaned the inside, which temporarily fixed the problem but the speaker has now stopped working again. Any ideas what the problem may be?

Thanks

many thanks, I assumed I'd have to repair something but hadn't considered buying an external pre-amp

It will probably be cheaper than getting the amp repaired

If both speakers work okay on other inputs .Then cable from pre-amp to amp and main amp are okay. If phone RCA jacks go directly to electronics board .Then its possible solder on phono jacks need to be resoldered or other connections in that section. If unit needs repair you can also purchase a phono preamp from radioshack hook up your and use it on other good inputs such as CD etc..Please note PHONO inputs are only for turntables .If a non turntable input such as CD,TAPE,TV Etc is used on PHONE .Then you will overdrive this input .

Could be a cold solder joint problem anywhere between the Phono rca's and the Phono board. It temporarily worked because the cold the joint shrinks and makes contact but when heat is introduced the solder joint opens again making the channel drop out.

Low volume through amplifier

Turntables generate a very low signal. Phono inputs on receivers containa pre-amp section to boost the signal to "line level" or the same level as other audio devices. I would suspect that you need to add that pre-amp section. Phono preamps are available for around $20 or so and are inserted between the turntable and the standard audio input on the receiver or amp.

Hope this helps,
Dan

Can you still get the px-e860 turntable? The one I have won't make any sound thru the speakers

Judging by my own experiences with hifi gear on eBay there is little on the face of the planet that ever really becomes UNavailable.

Wouldn't an attempt to resolve the issue work, too?

Describe your setup (preamp, amp, whatever) and if it has ever or never worked.

This unit can work through its own preamp with any audio equipment or with old-school gear already having an internal Phono Preamp. There's a switch to select which one.

I have cambridge audio azur 640a amp. Problem I have is only the one speaker is working. Both speakers seem to be ok working off the left speaker terminal. Seems to be problem with output from right...

The fault is on the amp! It sounds like the protection circuit is detecting a surge on the channel and shuts it down to protect the speaker. I would check the semiconductor device(s) for the right channel on the heatsink of the amp. You might even see damage of burning on one!

No Volume For My Music Hall MMF-5 Turtable

You will need to obtain a phono preamp to connect between the deck and the amplifier. I do not think this turntable is fitted with its own preamp - check the User Guide.

Connection of ipod touch with Cambridge Audio 840A

Get a 2.5 mm stereo cable to dual RCA ( phono plugs)
Radio shack or Walmart will have them.
Connect it to the aux or CD input in the rear of the amp.
