I ask because next week I will be turning 17 (I am a junior in high school). I aspire to write creatively for a living, but for now and I want to write crack fics as a kind of practice, with a new chapter at the end of each month. However, I worry that I won't be able to find the free time to do so, what with doing homework, playing video games and generally procrastinating. I think that writing fanfiction is generally more popular with younger people because they have so much more free time than I do. At my age, should I even try, or is it below me by now?

Not at all. never too old to pursue something like that. fanfiction is a form of creative writing and it shouldn't matter what your age is.
